Australia and Covid-19.

Whether luck or good management, I'm happy for you.

I am leaning towards good management by our PM Scott Morrison and his medical experts for moving quickly on this while some other countries were procrastinating over the virus' level of menace.

Morrison initially sounded like Trump. Luckily for us, he’s not mentally incompetent and listened to medical advice.

However, I think we are in no position to boast here.

We are an isolated island and, even with modern air travel, this gave us a bit more time than bigger countries with exponentially more travellers who came in before the alarm could be properly raised.

Thongs like the Ruby Princess were dumb mistakes we barely managed to contain.

Also, it ain’t over til the fat lady sings. We have no real way of knowing what is to come.

Also, I don’t think you intended this, but I find it a bit grating to see any Australians congratulating ourselves while so many are suffering so terribly in other places.

Point taken. I follow the world Covid tracker daily and see all the new deaths and it saddens me. Pray there is No second wave here. We may not come out of it as well we have to date.

Ruby Princess was the one blip on an otherwise spotless radar. But I dont believe that people whose aim is the welfare of other human beings.. namely our health officials, are going to allow Covid people killers into out populace deliberately?

Well, Ruby Princess passengers were permitted to wander all over Australia with NO demand that they self quarantine or even practice social distancing a couple of days after Morrison said people from overseas had to be quarantined for two weeks.

There was also the Sydney millionaire who threw a humongous birthday party a few days after getting back from Aspen. Morrison was too slow off the mark to have put anything in place by then, but any semi literate human should have known to self quarantine after returning from the US by then.

Said millionaire and his wife were both infected and caused a lot of infection.

There is a view around that Morrison’s slowness off the mark was influenced by his reluctance to cancel his church’s international Jesus fest that was happening after we should have been cancelling large gatherings.
