Democracy means having elected representatives to help voice out their concerns to represent themselves.
However, in Australia, the government had abolished the only elected aboriginal body in Austrlia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) and replace it with a council whereby its members are appointed, not elected by the people.
This would mean an erosion of the rights of the aborigines who are already highly disadvantaged in terms of social, economic and health.
Is there anything that can be done about this?
Possibly the US of A could invade Oz with the premise of "establishing democracy." Do you have any oil?
