Playstation 4 disc scratch problems

I have a Playstation 4 that I bought brand new in late 2018. I haven't used it much at all. It's still very virginal. I have discovered that if discs are left in it for a long time (several weeks or months) without play, and then removed, the system leaves scratches on the discs.

I have had at least three games I paid quite a bit of $ for ruined in this manner. Playstation no longer has a hotline you can call for technical support. No way to connect with a live representative.

Has anyone else had this experience or something similar?

Any suggestions?
