@Setanta,
I think this issue would have come up with other administrations as well. The captain has now tested positive for coronavirus.

I'm not convinced of that. The former undersecretary has been acting secretary since November of last year--before this viral threat was known. Plump has not replaced the secretary in more than four months. As I pointed out, Captain Crozier may have tried to get someone in the chain of command to listen to him, without effect.

@Setanta,
I'm sure he did, but that Navy philosophy that you keep going regardless the cost is not one that started with this administration. I think there is also a strain of thought that "well, these are young, strapping men and it's like the flu, no problem and there are doctors on board anyway" that is not unique to this administration.

@engineer,
Once again, I disagree. As has been pointed out, we are not at war . . . although one could allege that we are at war with a virus. But in that case, this administration is clearly failing in its duties.

We're not?

Some one better tell that to the military forces around the world. I'm sure that would be news to them.

Sailors warned against ‘posting negative comments’ after Trump’s acting Navy secretary was trashed online

On Monday, Military Times reporter Geoff Ziezulewicz obtained a message sent by PR officials to Navy officers on the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, instructing them to have sailors take down social media recordings of Navy Secretary Thomas Modly attacking relieved Capt. Brett Crozier as “stupid.”

The message warned “posting negative comments” that put “senior leaders” in a bad light is counterproductive, and urges everyone to stay out of the “negative media spotlight.”

Read the message below:

NEW: public affairs folks sent this notice out to leadership on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, telling them to tell their sailors they didn’t have permission to record SECNAV Modly and that bashing “Senior Leaders” online won’t help anything. Modly, who was already facing criticism for relieving Crozier of command after his letter warning about COVID-19 onboard the ship leaked to the media, generated a firestorm of negative press after the footage of his speech, and of sailors shouting back at him, made the rounds.

He initially claimed he stood by everything in the speech, but in the evening issued an apology to Crozier.

@engineer,
Heard that this morning.

I have a custom for any sailor in any service (as long as they aren't fighting us):

Thanks for catching my post, man.

@ehBeth,
The person I heard about it from thought he'd read it on a CNN chryon or from a CNN breaking news flash.

It still may be true, I can't believe how well Mobly dropped off the map.

The Navy upholds the relief from command of the captain and the second star for the admiral who ignored his original complaint.

@engineer,
What absolute ****. The SECNAV overrode a panel of admirals who recommended re-instating him
