Looking for the name of a movie that I watched on TV several years ago about a biological outbreak in a major city, maybe in California. It's not the movie Outbreak, and I don't think it was ever in theaters... kind of a B movie.
This story line followed a family that lived in the suburbs, and who were overly optimistic about the illness in their community, convinced that it would die down and blow over soon. They watched from day to day as their neighborhood declined... roving gangs looting their neighbors homes and local merchants. Eventually this family comes to the realization that they need to be prepared. A quick survey of available goods reveals that they have a small stash of canned goods and a single pistol to defend themselves. With the power and water off, they decide they need to leave the community and head out away from the city. With their vehicle already low on fuel their troubles only worsen as they drive into rural communities only to find armed citizens posted at roads leading into towns to keep others out. Now refugees, they are taken advantage of and chased by others for their vehicle and belongings. In one scene they encounter an individual who appears to be dead in a vehicle out on the open road, however this person is faking being dead to get the drop on them. Eventually they end up in some warehouse district battling it out with other refugees.
Any ideas?
Not the same movie, but here's an earlier take on contagion. It's a great movie, by the way. Jack Palance is superb.
Quote:Panic in the Streets is a 1950 film noir directed by Elia Kazan. It was shot exclusively on location in New Orleans, Louisiana, and features numerous New Orleans citizens in speaking and non-speaking roles.
The film tells the story of Lieutenant Commander Clinton Reed, an officer of the U.S. Public Health Service (played by Richard Widmark) and a police captain (Paul Douglas) who have only a day or two in which to prevent an epidemic of pneumonic plague after Reed determines a waterfront homicide victim is an index case. Co-stars include Barbara Bel Geddes (as Reed's wife Nancy), Jack Palance (in his film debut) and Zero Mostel – the latter two play associates of the victim who had prompted the investigation. The film was also the debut of Tommy Rettig, who played the Reeds' son.
@hightor,
Sounds interesting, but that's not it. Could have been on Netflix or Hulu, not sure. Have searched for a long time but haven't been able to find the show.
There's a film called The Road which sounds similar, as does Memoirs of a Survivor, but I doubt either of them are it.
