Have you tried and seen what happens using that USB key on a different machine? If it works fine on another rig, then the problem is with your machine. If not, the problem is with the USB key.

Also, make sure you have "Drag and Drop" enabled. Right-click on "Start", select "Properties", click the "Advanced" tab, then make sure "Enable Dragging and Dropping" is checked. BTW - I'm not real sure, but I believe Drag and Drop won't work if you're logged into Windows as a "Limited" user - you might want to check that out, too, but if you're logged in as a full-privilege Administrator account, that won't apply.

Once in a while, a full format will cure a problem like the one you report, but if not, then the USB key most likely is toast. Try using Window's format utility. Right-click on the drive's desktop icon, or on its folder in "My Computer", select "Format", be sure "Quick Format" is not selected, click "Start", and see what happens. Windows will tell you if the Format succeeds or fails, and its very possible you won't be able to format the key - which is a pretty good indication the key itself is faulty. It happens. Removing a key while its engaged in data transfer - read or write - is an almost sure guarantee of screwing it up. Its good practice always to use the "Safely remove hardware" utility before removing any USB device from your system.

Two things:

- firstly Timber is right about the machine issue - always try it on a different machine if the first doesn't work.

- re the drag and drop - it may not be such a good idea to such such an option at all. I know for my MP3 which functions exactly the same way as a USB but I use it for music, will not let me listen to the music if I use the drag and drop option - I actually have to use the SAVE AS function in the file menu.

Did you follow any instructions manual that came with the USB? usually they solve the problem.

Yes I have tried on a different machine, it's showing in My computer a new drive (F) but I can't save a file on it, I mean I tried to drag and drop it. I have tried to format nothing happen. Sadly there is no manual which came with it. It's a South African made, the name is FlashDrive 256MB SAHARA. I have already checked their webside there no info.

According to Sahara's website, this product has a write protect switch. Perhaps it is currently write protected.
