Ohh My!...lol

A few tips to the leary.....

Yes, you can cut curly hair. But if your hairdresser doesn't know what they are doing, than have them skip it. When cutting wet curly hair...they shouldn't pull it out straight, they need to allow room for the hair to kink, then cut....

DO NOT allow someone to razor your hair dry! It frays the ends of the hair....and you will end up with fuzz......and if your hair is in desperate shape because of a perm or color beforehand, it will just make it worse.

Learn your angles. There are many angles to a hair cut, a 0,45,90, 180 and 360, and some inbetween. It comes in handy...to know those. Besides, if you learn them...the next time you go to a stylist, if you talk hair...they will end up listening to you, because they think you know what you are talking about....lol

Perms: Your hair should be curly when you leave the saloon. Not half ass curly, but curly in the manner that you wanted. The reason, when perming hair, you have opened up the cuticle in the hair to accept the perm, if its going to curl, it will have curled on the rod, therefore being curly when she pulls the rods out and rinses. Those of you that go home to find that after 48 hours and a wash, that your hair isn't curly..well, it wasn't curly when you left the salon. She camo'd it..long enough to get you out of there. Yes, you can wash your hair that very night...after a perm...the curl won't fall out. The stylist tells you not to wash your hair for 48 hours because she doesn't want a turn around. Think: She just permed your hair, you paid her....why would she want to spend 2 hours doing it again (for free)..she has other appts. Therefore she can pencil you back in, during a slow time..to avoid loosing any money she would if she had to turn right back around to re-perm your hair.....and moving other scheduled hair cuts?

And yea....we tend to get pissy...lol I had a lady that come into the salon (school) one day...asked for me. She had to most beautiful long blonde hair. She asked for a trim....no problem. Long hair thats all one length? 5 minutes.

After that trim...she admired it, said..."You know, I'd really like to have a style!"

"ok...what would you like?"

"I dunno...just cut it." (ohh hell no! I need an idea!)

She finally decided that she wanted it shoulder length, layered all over. No biggy....I washed, cut, styled. We admired my work....

She loved it...or seemed too. But right before she gets out of the chair..she decided that she wanted it cut SHORTER. (WTF? Shocked )

I explain to the lady.."Ma'am...are you sure? I can take it off, but I can't put it back on....are you sure about this?"

"Yea...cut it once more."

By this point, I'm getting frustrated to no end. This will make the third go around on her head...and even though she's professing to be happy, she's changing her mind before she even gets out of the chair. The third time I cut it...it still wasn't short enough, this women was allowing for me to get her hair all finished, dried and styled...and taking that giant leap out of the chair...then stopping to tell me...."No....SHORTER!"

Talk about pissed off...to no end. Yes..I was bad, but the 4th time I had to re-cut her freakin' hair...I cut her in a man's hair cut.....All 90'd, short..and even had the man neck line...over her ears...FREAKIN' SHORT! The only alternative left for her when I finished was the clippers...LOL

I didn't think I was ever going to get her out of my CHAIR!!!!!!!!!! 3 hours and some odd minutes later, I had her GONE.......it called for a long break on the smoke porch...I was so pissed off. All she had to do was tell me..."Mans hair cut"..and that would have been it.

LMAO

wow shivers....great tip re talking about angles.

Yeah, my husband will want to grow his hair long, then have it cut off (I think he's too old for long hair, but hey, it's his head, ya know)

anyway, I came home last week and said, "wow, you got your hair cut short again, good"

Then, I took a look at it. Whoa....correction needed here.

Now, I know exactly what the grand poo bah said when he sat down in the chair....."Just cut it shorter" Now I know that's vague, but whoever cut it had to know that "just cut it shorter" did not mean..."cut off 4 inches straight across the back, leaving it all one length so I look like Emo Philips.
My husband is a real "guy guy" when it comes to stuff like that...needs to be told "ok, that looks good, or that's not right"

I said to him..."honey, you know I don't pull the "wife" card more than twice every decade, but I'm going to use it now....You look like a retard, and you need to go back in the morning and have her redo it"

God bless him, he took no offense "OK, what should I tell her to do?"

Well....first off, at least another inch needed to come off, but more importantly, you need to have your hair all layered in the back, it's all one length, and it looks goofy.

Him: Feathered?

Me: No! Layered! Tell her shorter and layered. OK, tell her.....you want a GUY hair cut.

He did, and she gave him one, now he looks fine.

Then...

HA! I spit my pop tart out on that one...LOL

I peeled both my boys bald yesterday...lol, they wanted it cut smoothe off, so I obliged. Besides, its summer....lol They look like mini versions of Mr.Clean...lol (I'll have to post a pic later..lol)

I got one more tip for those "Do it yourselfer's"...if your going to cut your own hair...please do it with scissors that are made to cut hair. You can find them inexpensive...a few dollars a pair...they'll even have them in sewing depts. BUt do not cut your hair with craft/sewing scissors. The blades on each pair may resemble the other one, but there is a big difference. Sewing scissors will blunt cut hair....and it won't lay right, where hair scissors will bevel the hair....and it will lay better.

OK, my hair is now driving me nuts because it's Almost long enough in the back to put up....only need like a quarter more inch of growth...but the front is too frickin long.

I've been wearing a stinkin' ponytail for weeks now.

Friday was the first day I wore it down, after rolling in hot rollers.

God, just a couple more weeks and I can get something done.

Thanks for asking...

Yeah, now it looks something like this...or would if someone came over every morning and did it...and it was 100 degrees out with 95% humidity....

My hair is actually just a little darker red than that, and those are my eyebrows too.

I'm still learing how to play with it.

My hair would come out jagged frizz if it was cut that way... what I want is almost as exteme an angle, but gradual, as a straight line. This appears to be impossible. Aims knife at self, hits the cheesecake instead...

That can be quite frustrating, yes? (How come I can't get it to be just like the hairdresser does, hmmmm? Evil or Very Mad )

But I like the idea of the cut! (going by the photograph) Very stylish! You'll get the hang it styling before too long, I'm certain.

... Another cut coming up for me this Thursday! It's been great to just dry it in 5 minutes, throw on a bit of shaping stuff & run! (But then, that's short hair!)

(Hey, that rhymes! Very Happy )

I meant to say: You'll get the hang of styling it before too long. (Oops! My brain is not functioning properly tonight. I don't like Mondays!)

Don't know if I should be posting this...cause it's not a bad experience..well not so far at least.
I got my hair cut yestrday..and it looks a bit like this. Is it tooo retro? I wonder.

http://www.beautifulhairdos.com/pictures/alyssa.milano.01.jpg

That's NOT my hair color. Mine's black and slightly longer than hers in the photo. And of course, I have my Indian (light brown) complexion. My hair curls naturally in slightly bigger S waves than hers. It's nice but looks messy if I leave my hair loose all day at work. So I tie it up in a braid to keep it out of the way.

I know what you mean sakhi about the "messy" feeling.

That cut in the picture actually looks really pretty. I've always wondered how people with a natural curl deal with their hair. Mine is staight and sometimes it feels so good to give it a good brushing/combing out. When you have curls, do you then have to take sections of hair and comb them into ringlets?

See, for me, my instinct would then be to comb all the ringlets together, since I never dealt with that, and I'd ruin the effect.

That's what I'm going through the process of learning now....my hair is supposed to be like a series of chunks, and I'm trying to figure out the line between "chunks" and "messy"

I think the hair style you posted is lovely.

Thanks, Chai Smile

My hair is naturally wavy/curly but is kinda straight on the top of my head, just like in the picture. My hair is not very curly, it forms big S-waves/curls from eye-level down to the end of my hair. It's probably shaped (just my guess) that way because my braid (english braid) in school. I wore a braid for almost 10 years. I comb my hair just like anyone else with straight hair - with a comb/brush. It looks straightened for about 10 mins after I comb, but forms waves after a while. I cut it although I liked my long hair. Long hair left me with no choice but to wear a bun (to office). Sad

For my hair to look pretty and shiny, I comb and completely untangle it before I shampoo. After i shampoo, and after it dries, I just finger comb it. Also - if I braid my hair tightly, I can achieve a tighter, curled look (when I undo the braid). No tongs/rollers required.

I have always wished I had straight hair but I dont want to do it artifically nor do I color my hair. I saw the hairstyle you posted. very nice. I love the hair color too.

Now, I have totally hijacked this thread with my hairstyle story...
