Your very worst experience at the hairdresser's.

I once had a fellow up here in my local mall cut it right. I'd worked with him over a few visits. Perfect. I asked him what he called it.... the words were, 'a graduated bob'.

I went in next time I needed a haircut, asked for him, waited and hour or so, got him, asked for a graduated bob, and got this damned sweetheart thing, with the back long, angled to the short part by the chin.

I could have killed him. With pincurl clips.

I guess I should explain I don't care as much as you do if my hair is wet or dry, although I agree, mostly, on the dry, if it's done right wet, I'll be happy, it will work.

I guess I can share my latest haircut experience, even though I am still slightly traumatized.

My hair is fairly thick and curly, but it was getting a bit too long on the sides. I sat down in the chair and told him to shorten the sides and take some off the top. Then I dozed.

I was awakened by the barber gently squeezing my shoulder as he handed me the small mirror and then swung the chair around so I could see my reflection in the full-size mirror.

I set the small mirror down because after what I saw I didn't even feel like looking at the back.

All I could do was laugh.

I honestly can't say I've ever had a bad haircut. Sometimes the stylist didn't feather the sides quite the way I like it but nothing that was a big deal or made me look hideous when I left the shop...LOL

I did have a really bad experience several years ago when I went to a nail/waxing salon (my first and last visit to that place) and the lady who waxed my eyebrows (she was Vietmanese and spoke VERY LITTLE english) waxed my ENTIRE eyebrows off!!!!!! I was mortified and had to use a eyebrow pencil for a few weeks till they grew back. Shocked

OMG doglover thats just terrible, but I cant stop myself from laughing, it reminds me of a friend of mine who had to go to court for some minor thing, anyway, he went to the hairdressers and got his hair cut and went to the pub with some mates, when they got home they had a few more drinks and he woke the next morning to find they had shaved his eyebrows off! so his mother took him to a makeup artist who drew them back on, but because his hair is black, his eyebrows had to be dark black as well.
When I saw him later that night I thought he was looking a bit odd then when I got closer I just died of laughter looking at those eyebrows!

Oh no...

I've been terrified to get my eyebrows waxed over the last few months due to the very thing you told us DLover Surprised

I only have had my eyebrows waxed once, and that was by a family friend who happened to be a hairdresser. I had no problem trusting her. But whenever I go out to say Supercuts and see their sign offering eyebrow waxing, the temptation is very easily calmed with paranoia. Eee!

So here's a picture of my mullet - with style. I just recently discovered the absolute value and beauty of Bobbie pins (I told you I needed my eyebrows waxed!)...

Wow, it doesn't look like a mullet at all to me. I don't think of a mullet as being curly.

I'm with Osso. You look perfectly fine. What sort of cut were you looking for?

I have been short changed at the barber shop. Seems like every time they cut off far more than I want. Seems like I just have bad haircut karma or something. Maybe I talk too much but whatever the reason...It's been going on as long as I care to remember.

Eva,

Oh it's not a mullet in the picture because I had pinned it down with bobbie-pins. I don't know how to explain it's natural style. It just takes the shape of a mullet.

I was going for a longer layer look, and shorter on the bottom aswell. More like...

*shrug*

Gus,

I intentionally try to look away from pictures. I have a lazy-eye that just ruins any attempt to look head-on Laughing

oh geez, a bit of a foxpaw there, doglover... Shocked

Sanctuary-- I think I like your hair best in that last pic, actually Smile It looks like it has more fullness and bounciness-- 'tis cute!

My worst one was at around twelve-- this was when short hair was so in, you know, Maggie on Northern Exposure, Demi Moore, everybody. And everybody kept saying I had such a round face--grr, I got SO sick of hearing that growing up--I needed to have shorter hair (since getting older and realizing I can have my own opinion on my hair and face shape, I have decided that is a complete crock anyway)... So, I showed the stylist a pic of a girl with a cute short cut that was kind of fluffy on top or something( I barely remember what it looked like now) and she said, "Oh you'll need a perm for body to get that fullness" HaHAHa. I now know that hairdressers love to give you that "body perm" line-- "It won't be curly, it'll just add body." Boolsheet. I looked EXACTLY like little freakin orphan Annie.

Aww, well thank you Dora! That's very kind of you Very Happy

I have fallen in love with the way my hair has volume at the top, as opposed to the former..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v93/CrySanctuary/IM000617.jpg

Note the near straight hair from the roots down to about my ears? I had never had short layers at that point.

I can also now put my hair up in a shaggy-chic way that was never before possible. Ah, all my whining and groaning about this haircut has definitely been subdued by a new, reluctant love of it.

(Oh but GOD do I miss my length!!! And my curls have changed aswell.. never have I had curls as nice as in that picture since my haircut. Maybe the volume/weight changes that as well? Maybe a different conditioner..hmm.. Idea )

That's it!
I've had it!
I'm officially divorcing my current hairdresser!
A man who doesn't seem to be able to listen when I explain what I want done.
I've persevered for a few months now (because he's very local - I can walk there from home) but the last haircut was.. well, kinda crappy! Evil or Very Mad Sad
So I spoke to a couple of women at work who have great haircuts .. & lo & behold: They have the same hairdresser!
Far from my home, but what the hell!
So that's where I'm going next Thursday. (Couldn't get in today.)
Wish me luck! Very Happy
