how to change my backup email address

All of a sudden I can't log into my facebook account. It won't accept my password that I always use. I tried to reset my password like it said but Facebook wants to send me a code to an email address that has now been deleted but Facebook won't let me change to another email address so they can send me the code. I keep going around in circles. Can anyone help me? Thank you, Ella72
