"Scarred Valentine"
Pull apart, re-shape and construct
A heart that doesn't care anymore -
For anything -
Curl toes around the pieces of shag in the rug
Breathe a deep breath of apartment styled air
And remember the bed that doesn't have you
In it anymore
Empty spaces full of furniture,
Shattered picture frames full of memories,
Broken hearts full of lover's malicious intents;
These things, these remind me of reasons
I hug myself tightly as I drop my chin to my chest -
I have a way of letting things go
When they're about to go smooth sailing.
Did you count on me?
Only the strong survive.
Don't get too close, I'll become a viper
And kill you with my low slung defense
Of words that seem empty and tones that seem dead
Then sadly watch you die before my feet.
Fingers wrapped below the ear,
Around the neck
Thumb caressing high cheekbone
And I can still taste your good intentions
Against my lips.
Mirrors only show what we never know
We're always surprised as we walk by,
Catch a glimpse and it's almost always a double check
Yes, you're still holding it together
Or no, you're wearing your regret as bright
As the lights shining off your wine glass.
Go from feeling desirable, feisty and divine
To beaten, unworthy, broken and vile
It's my own fault, but maybe the next will
Pull apart, re-shape and construct
A heart that doesn't care anymore -
For anything -
Turn it into something beautiful.
