A Conversation
people in their ways
filling up their days
but then what am I doing?
sharing the same days
looking for new ways
but then what are they doing?
lost underneath what I think i should be
I bet you feel the same way
or maybe not
all I can do is make a guess after all
so I guess the right answer and fit the peg into the right slot for me
and I guess you're unfulfilled and frustrated with your TV
looking deeper into the screen
seeing only shallow reflections of your life going by
looking back at you
and I guess you're telling yourself about a great tomorrow
pushing back what you want
until you can just get x, y and z out of the way
the sun will rise just the same tomorrow
but will you?
time takes it's toll
and I guess you say it's not that bad
the day is over, home awaits anxiously
sitting right next to home, friday finds itself on your doorstep again
has it already been a week?
hold your breath s'more
keep waiting
I've given up on trying to understand
I guess you're not that different from me
but we're worlds apart
We carried him to a hillside,
Beside the duck pond, winding
to a little gazebo, where we will sit.
Sometime we'll sure be finding
a time to ponder all his smiles,
and fits - and dreams not shared.
His smiling eyes and untold miles
Have stopped. And gone somewhere.
All of you sweet people are the DEFINITION of LOVE.
I embrace your thoughts like dry ground rises to rain.

AN OLD LOVE AFFAIR
(I dreamed of an old Love Affair- Jimmy Davis, sung by Hank Snow)
Just like old times you were here last night
And gone was my worry and care.
When I awoke I knew then that I
Had dreamed of an old love affair.
(I was alone in the darkness my Dear
Many dreams ago you left me there)
Sunlight told me you were gone and that I
Had dreamed of an old love affair
(I've been so lonely since you have gone
I loved you with all of my heart.
Heaven was mine when you smiled last night
And said that we'd make a new start)
(I was alone in the darkness my Dear
Many dreams ago you left me there)
Sunlight told me you were gone and that I
Had dreamed of an old love affair
Life seems so empty without you my Dear
If it's sunshine or rain I just don't care
Sunlight told me you were gone and that I
Had dreamed of an old love affair
Boulder To Birmingham
(Emmylou Harris/Bill Danoff)
I don't want to hear a love song
I got on this airplane just to fly
And I know there's life below
But all that it can show me
Is the prairie and the sky
And I don't want to hear a sad story
Full of heartbreak and desire
The last time I felt like this
It was in the wilderness and the canyon was on fire
And I stood on the mountain in the night and I watched it burn
I watched it burn, I watched it burn.
I would rock my soul in the bosom of Abraham
I would hold my life in his saving grace.
I would walk all the way from Boulder to Birmingham
If I thought I could see, I could see your face.
Well you really got me this time
And the hardest part is knowing I'll survive.
I have come to listen for the sound
Of the trucks as they move down
Out on ninety five
And pretend that it's the ocean
coming down to wash me clean, to wash me clean
Baby do you know what I mean
I would rock my soul in the bosom of Abraham
I would hold my life in his saving grace.
I would walk all the way from Boulder to Birmingham
If I thought I could see, I could see your face.
Hello Young Lovers - Don't know who wrote it. I love to hear it by Johnny Mathis
Anna:
When I think of Tom
I think of a night
When the Earth smelled of summer
And the sky was streaked with white
The soft mist of England
Was sleeping on a hill
I remember this
And I always will
There are new lovers now on the same silent hill
Looking on the same blue sea
And I know Tom and I are a part of them all
And they're all a part of Tom and me
Hello young lovers whoever you are
I hope your troubles are few
All my good wishes go with you tonight
I've been in love like you
Be brave young lovers and follow your star
Be brave be faithful and true
Cling very close to each other tonight
I've been in love like you
I know how it feels to have wings on your heels
And to fly down the street in a trance
You fly down the street on the chance that you meet
And you meet - not really by chance
Don't cry young lovers whatever you do
Don't cry because I'm alone
All of my memories are happy tonight
I've had a love of my own
I've had a love of my own like you
I've had a love of my own
Be brave young lovers and follow your star
Be brave and faithful and true
Cling very close to each other tonight
I've been in love like you
I know how it feels to have wings on your heels
And to fly down the street in a trance
You fly down the street on a chance that you meet
And you meet - not really by chance
Don't cry young lovers whatever you do
Don't cry because I'm alone
All my memories are happy tonight
I've had a love of my own
I've had a love of my own like yours
I've had a love of my own
Proverb
Les morts vont vite, the dead go fast, the next day absent!
Et les vivants sont dingues, the living are haywire.
Except for a few who grieve, life rapidly readjusts itself
The milliner trims the hat not thinking of the departed
The horse sweats and throws his stubborn rider to the earth
Uncaring if he has killed him or not
The thrown man rises. But now he knows that he is not going,
Not going fast, though he was close to having been gone.
The day after Caesar's death, there was a new, bustling Rome
The moment after the racehorse's death, a new one is sought for the stable
The second after a moth's death there are one or two hundred other moths
The month after Einstein's death the earth is inundated with new theories
Biographies are written to cover up the speed with which we go:
No more presence in the bedroom or waiting in the hall
Greeting to say hello with mixed emotions. The dead go quickly
Not knowing why they go or where they go. To die is human,
To come back divine. Roosevelt gives way to Truman
Suddenly in the empty White House a brave new voice resounds
And the wheelchaired captain has crossed the great divide.
Faster than memories, faster than old mythologies, faster than the
speediest train.
Alexander of Macedon, on time!
Prudhomme on time, Gorbachev on time, the beloved and the lover on time!
Les morts vont vite. We living stand at the gate
And life goes on.

Stardust - melody by Hoagy Carmichael, lyrics by - ?
And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart
You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by
Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song
Beside a garden wall
When stars are bright
You are in my arms
The nightingale tells his fairy tale
A paradise where roses bloom
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain
Jackie- I'm not a musician, just a music lover.
Thats great Swimpy- I enjoy music too, but I do not listen a LOT. I am not up to date on all the songs... but I really like reading the lyrics as poetry. Sometimes they are more inspirational.
I have to tell you how I love your avatar. It, and your signature are VERY funny and clever. Gave me a howl!
there's beauty in that silver singing river
there's beauty in that rainbow in the sky
but none of these and nothing else
could match the beauty in my true loves eyes.

Polka Dots and Moonbeams by Burke/Van Heusen, performed by Sinatra
A country dance was being held in a garden
I felt a bump and heard an Oh beg your parden
Suddenly I saw polka dots and moonbeams
All around a pug nose dream
The music started and was I the perplexed one
I held my breathe and said may I have the next one
In my frightened arms polka dots and moonbeams
Sparkled on a pug nose dream
There were questions in the eyes of the other dancers
As we floated over the floor
There were questions but my heart knew all the answers
And perhaps a few things more
Now in a cottage built of lilacs and laughter
I know the meaning of the words ever after
And I'll always see polka dots and moonbeams
When I kiss the pug nose dream
Now - THAT is a plain sweet song. Cute , edgarblythe!!
It's so deceptively simple, yet original and poetic.
Oh you have such a pretty face
You favor a girl I once knew
I imagine that she's in Tennessee
Oh Lord I should be there too.
But I left Tennessee in a hurry dear
The same way that I'm leaving you
For love is mainly just memories
And everyone's got them but few.
It's a brand new Tennessee waltz
You're literally just waltzing on air
It's a brand new Tennessee waltz
With no telling who will be there
When I leave it'll be like I found you love
Descending victorian stairs
I'm feeling like one of your photographs
With not even you left to care.
Have all your passionate violins play
A tune for a Tennessee kid
Who's feeling like leaving another town
With no place to go if he did.
That is SO SAD, Dys. But I like it. Pretty lyrics, but it qualifies as a SAD SONG.
Do you know who sings it/wrote it or what?
