I am up to HERE with the meek!
I once invented a phrase: "The tyranny of the meek" and I never said a truer thing - at least this is how I feel today.
What started this ridiculous rant? Well, we have had a meek move into our team at work - but he thinks he is a mover and shaker and stirrer. This causes great problems. Forgive me, but if I am to rant, I must be blunt, and this person is several sheep short in the top paddock - the lights are on, but nobody is home - the lift does not go to the top storey - and, he is intensely insensitive both to the reactions of those around him, and to what is going on with clients. This means that he has twice endangered other people by his total inability to assess dangerousness.
So - I had to confront the dangerousness thing - and I did it firmly but kindly - after several more subtle attempts by various people, including me, failed. But - he is a meek, by virtue of his relative stupidity - and hence statutorily worthy of protection, so I feel bad - it was like shooting fish in a barrel.
You see, the meek demand protection - one cannot speak too much in a group, in case the meek feel silenced - one cannot deal too harshly with their behaviour, because it feels like bullying - one must be careful where and how one steps, lest their corns be beneath one's feet.
The meek are tyrants! They prey on our qualms and guilt! They munch on our mercy! They get away with murder because of their meekness! Down with the meek! Don't let them inherit ANYTHING!
Am I bad?
(Please be gentle, because I am a closet meek myself....... wends her way timorously away....shaking ...)
and the meek shall inherit the whole can of worms
They ain't having MY worms!
I hear Combantrin is good for that.
dlowan- If you are speaking of the manipulative passive agressive sorts of people, I am with you. I don't care to deal with people who cry, and whine, and make themselves victims, in order to get what they want. Give me a "shoot straight from the hip" person any day!
What about when they do not cry and whine - but just look meek and put upon?
Sock 'em.
(I do know JUST the sort of person you mean, and they are infinitely irritating.)
dlowan- IMO, that is simply a more subtle form of passive agressiveness. Ya mean the "poor poor pitiful me" look? A lot of people like that get away with murder. "Oh, you wouldn't want to ask Mary to do this or that, She's SOO fragile". "Oh, we have to look away when it comes to Johnny. He means well, but he isn't too smart".
I think that you need to deal with people professionally, the best way that you know how, especially in potentially dangerous situations. You don't want something adverse to happen, just because you didn't want to hurt the person's feelings!
I want to kill him! Do you think that would hurt his feelings?
I cry! But I HATE it!
Does that mean I am a meek?
Smeg it, it does, doesn't it?
Waaaaaaaaah!
Yeah, it might. A2K is a good place to talk this whole thing out. When you can become more dispassionate about this guy, and have calmed down, you might just want to have a little talk with him.
I know that it isn't easy, but it is a lot better than stewing at your job every day. Ain't good for the old blood pressure!
THe meek? Here's what I can't stand, when I moving about in public (on foot or in a car) and there are meek peopleabout. They hedge, they hesitate, they fake left then go right. JUST MOVE! Get out of my way!
I already have, Phoenix, he is still stupid and dangerous and he won't be changing any time soon.
YES, 'k! Run the meek down, I say!
I find it hard to run them down, they're so pathetic, you know.
I know! And after you do it, you feel bad, and you go and pick 'em up, and you hear all about their life, and then they hit on you!
It is a mess, a mess I tell you...
AHA! That's right! Grrrrr....
And than, when you say no, they get really angry!
the meek are like that....
meek people got no reason
meek people got no reason...
Of course, the worst part is we all have an inner meek....I hate my inner meek.....I am, as I said in the intro, a closet meek....I don't come out to many people....well, I am not meek, I have an inner wuss...is an inner wuss as bad as an inner meek?
if i run my inner wuss down, will i have to go back and look after it cos I feel bad?
Hmmmm.... I guess we all do have an inner meek/wuss. Of course if you have one you'll have to go see it and look after it, make sure it's ok every once in a while. Then it'll prolly hit on you.
