Delete it. It's just a log file. There's a very slight chance of problems but there's a far greater chance of problems running a disk that's full.

Probably to do with the unsuccessful load of XP SP2. Here is where you can get some information on SP2 install problems.

Do I need SP2? I've heard it causes more problems than it solves...

Based on its name it looks like a log of Windows service pack updates.

Hey. it takes a LOT to keep windows up to date. 87 GBs of updates in 1 1/2 years is about right.

It is a lot of space for a log file which is normally only text. Probably just a problem in reading how large the file actually was.

That depends on whether you have hardware/software conflicts. In a clean install, it works wonderfully. If not, get out the tylenol 2. One problem can be if you did not have a clean install of SP1 and then try to install SP2. You get a mixture of files and are in a bit of trouble. I am not an expert on SP2 install, so I will not try to guide you there, other than give you the link to some information in the last post.

Do you keep up to date on the windows fixes that are put out the 2nd Tuesday of every month?

when you get a chance, run Disk Defragmenter.
that should help speed things up...

A suggestion.... Run scandisk before running Disk Defragmenter. That way, you can ensure that you do not have a disk problem prior to moving your files to/from bad disk areas.

Hard to tell without having access to the log, but that wasn't something I'd want to walk you through, as opening the file would likely have caused your memory use to grind the computer to a halt and some special tools may have been needed to investigate.

I can tell you that despite the blind macintosh evangelism, an out of control log file is not something a mac (or any OS) is immune to.

On a mac server I administered briefly some poorly written software did the same thing.

I think my dad uses that...is it free? He uses one that was free. And he said it catches all sorts of stuff.
