~~before you read~~

this story came from a forum RP im currently playing with 7 other people, and note that it isnt fully my own work. i merely edited the posts to make it into a single story. the reason i am doing this is because i think this RP is extremely good and its plot is the best i've seen since FF7 . however, i did write most of the posts in the original RP and i am also the narrator in the original RP. so i guess i have more right than most other people to do this. :/

if you find the plot interesting and wish to join the RP then please tell me, because the RP is still playing.

Star Chronicles: The Midnight Son

~Prelude~

The year was 2036 when Earth lost its war, and the term freedom lost its meaning for the human race. Men had lost to creatures that looked much like the wraiths from nightmares and horror stories?-sinners they were called, demons that stroked fear into the hearts of bravest, drinking the blood of men while tearing them into pieces. Humans were no longer at the top of the food chain. But many had hopes that someone would come to save them, someone who was born in the very darkness that gave birth to the sinners.

That was more than a hundred years ago; the year is now 2156. Survivors of the human race had been scattered to different parts of the world, being used as slaves for their demon-like masters. The future looked very much hopeless for men, save a rebellion or two in the shadows. For a long time, life seemed to have settled down, until one day there came a meteor shower.

~Part I: The Coming~

The day he arrived was the day that was predicted. It was the day when the stars fell on the planet, and the child from the void arrived to liberate mankind. His eyes slowly adjusted to the smoke that surrounded him. The first sight he saw was destruction of a small shed. Birds chirped loudly all around him, but he just lay there. It is better to say that he did not know how to move rather than he would not. But he didn't mind it, because he liked lying there on his back; "the sky is awfully pretty to look up at," he thought to himself, "Where am I?" He awkwardly lifted his arm and stared at his hand. "What is this? What am I?" still not making any effort of getting up, the boy let his arm fall to his side and remained his stares at the sky.

Hours later, the light brown haired boy finally figured out how to move the strange long limbs attached to the bottom of his body; he could not remember what they were called, however. "Where...am...I?" The boy asked himself, and sat up to look around the trees that surrounded him aimlessly, until a cloud of black smoke finally caught his attention. "Things...I want to go over there." The boy said, lifting himself up and shakily headed down towards the slave village.

…

Aura was running swiftly through the forest in direction of a nearby slave village of "Fleet". The young traveler was too late, however, the town was already under attack. She sighed, and stopped to hide herself in the bushes, overlooking the mayhem at hand. In truth, the young girl is a member of one of the few rebel groups left on earth, still resisting the bloody grasp of the sinners. She had been traveling for a day with order at hand, and Fleet was her final destination.
Quietly, Aura took out a scroll of writings in her pocket. "Slave city: Fleet" she read to herself, "be careful, the overlord of this city, Bakken is a powerful Sinner known for unbelievable cruelty; he resides here with a battalion of sinners and many slaves. Lately, a rebellion has broken out. Countless human lives have been taken so far. We must safe this town and seize this opportunity to expand our cause." That was what her orders told her, but by the looks of the village so far it appears that the rebellion had already been turn up to the open. Blood and iron had already been spilled over the vicinity, most houses were burned, and scattered fighting could be heard in the distance. The reality looks quite grim; in fact, Aura would be lucky to have found any survivors so far. Seeing that her mission was already in peril, Aura carefully ran into the village, keeping out of sight. With movements like an agile cat on the hunting, Aura made her way into the center square in the village upper quarters; she made sure that she wasn't seen by anyone, but she was sure too that she had seen no one alive in this dead town. A massacre seemed to have happened at the center of the town; there are dead bodies everywhere, and the ground reeks of a disgusting stench, which almost caused Aura to puke. "D***! I was too late to save most of them." Aura thought to herself, biting her tongue, "But I'll search every last area for survivors.... Hmmm?"

Before Aura could make any moves, a child's crying caught her attention. Then, as she turned to the direction that it came from, the child broke into screaming. Making two steps into one, Aura rushed into the house where she heard the scream, and immediately found the boy; there was a sinner standing over him, raising a club-like weapon slowly. Aura didn't hesitate; She drew out her swords and plowed them right through the chest of the sinner. The demon then dropped on the ground twitching, and drew out his last breath. Knowing that there could be more sinners around, Aura covered the child's mouth, and made a sign asking him to hush. The kid, however, was frightened, and gave out a deep gasp. "Do not speak!" Aura warned the child, and covered his mouth tighter, "it will draw attention." The kid then stood up, and said no more. Seeing that he was somewhat calmer, Aura checked and made sure that the child wasn't wounded.

Just as she was about to lead the kid away, Aura heard a deep pounding behind her, and then a harsh voice spoke. "You rebels have cost me countless slaves, little girl. That price comes high." Surprised, Aura quickly turns around, but only to be slashed in the chest. Good thing her reflexes kicked in, otherwise she'd be dead right on the spot. Even though it was a light wound, a searing pain flashed across Aura's breast, and she knelt down on the floor. Then, seeing that he kid was worried, she smiled: "Don't mind this, I just let my guard down for a sec…" But the same voice interrupted her: "I am Bakken, the overlord of this city. The rest assured, I am going to make you life a living hell." A muscular brute then appeared, smashing and hitting everything around him.

"Common!" grabbing the kid's hand, Aura pushed past Bakken and ran into the street, while clutching her wound and breaking for the City gates. She held the child fast, ever pulling him closer despite his screaming and crying; it isn't Aura's style to leave anyone behind in danger, not even if the situation would make a turn to worst for both the rescue and herself. However, even though the wound on her chest didn't look deep, the edge of the sinner's sword must have been poisoned with paralytics, and Aura quickly found herself ever lagging. "If I can just save the child!" Aura said to herself wearily, looking back to see Bakken catching up to them.

But before she could turn to the child and tell him to run while she herself holds the sinner back, a dagger whirled right past Aura's head and hit Bakken in the shoulder. To her joy, when Aura looked to the direction where the dagger came from, a kind figure stepped out from behind a building. "Magic!" Aura slammed to a stop, but the kid hid himself behind his rescuer and gazed fearfully into Magic's cold blue eyes.

"Listen, if you're going to save a screaming child, it's always best to check your surroundings first." Magic said dryly, staring at Aura, then instructs closely, "Go behind a building. Make sure you have more than two ways to get out." When she was sure that her friend and the kid were out of sight, Magic whipped out another dagger, which gleams in an eerie blue light like a shark tooth in the dark; a lethal weapon. Skillfully, she ran her fingers over the smooth blade, and stood in position, looking at her opponent in the eye. Across the town square, Bakken howled in pain; the blade sunk deep into the sinner's muscle, almost penetrating into the bone. In madness and fury, he then dug out the dagger from his flesh and threw it back towards Magic. Unlike Aura, however, Magic was somewhat skilled in fighting; she only tilted her head a little, and the dagger whistled past her, narrowly missing her ear, and slammed into the wall of a hut. Magic then walked slowly backward, and snatched her weapon back. The young woman now stood against a ten feet demon without fear; the blue dagger glows with a freezing light in her right hand, while in her left, the other shined with a radiant red light. Magic wasn't about to clash with the slave master head on, however, when Bakken showed a sign of doubt in his eyes, she turned around to signal Aura and the kid, and all three of them bolted to the unfolding scene.

It wasn't until she was by the southern end of the town did Aura realize the destruction inflicted upon this little village of wooden huts and fishing boats. Everything within the vicinity resembled death; even the most hardy would lose clutch of any happy thoughts at sighting of such gray field. To wipe out all life, the sinners had soaked the grasslands near the south wall with salt water so grass will ever spur there again. The peopled dwellings had suffered the most: All the buildings in this area had been torn apart; as a ritual, the sinners broke down the roof of their enemies' homes, and with it, a section of the wall. To her disgust, Aura saw all the town folks in their homes, crucified upside down and burnt alive with their family. Before Aura would lose control of self and turn around to face Bakken in madness, Magic stopped, and pulled her onwards the road across the bridge into Flee forest.

"Come on!" Magic shouts, not once looking back as she ran hand-in-hand with her friend and the kid. The trio had now crossed the river, and drew to the edge of the Flee forest. Although seemingly calmer than the town they came from, they could distinctively hear scattered gunshots and screaming sinners in a distance; the atmosphere was getting thicker with hostility and threat. Just as Magic was rethinking whether it was the right choice to come this way, a blurry figure suddenly popped out of the bushes and slammed right into her; if Aura didn't catch her on the back, she would've fell into the mud.

Quickly recovered, Magic raised her head in fury, half expecting to see a sinner holding a sword standing before them. To everyone's relief, however, when the figure slowly crawled out of the shadows, they found not a sinner but a boy in the teens standing in front of them. The kid stood up, and smiled at the person who he had just bumped into; he seemed well adjusted for his figures, except his short brown hair, which matches in an odd way with his violet eyes. Aura took a light breath and laughed, but Magic stared at the child in suspicion; the earlier "accident" hadn't been too pleasant for her, as it had terminated whatever plan she was making. "Watch where you are going!" she groaned, tapping her foot heavily on the ground in protest. But the boy did not reply, and only stared back to her in the eyes innocently, and his brown hair appeared orange bathing in a ray of sun light. Seeing this, Magic shook her head, and continued to lead her friend into the forest, leaving the strange fellow behind.
