I was born Catholic. Even in grade school, I thought the idea of heaven was creepy. I mean, In order to get there, you have to
DIE first.
BUMMER! The bible doesn't support the idea of life after death, and I can't understand the rationale behind NDE or reincarnation. Would somebody please explain what about life right here on earth is so bad they would be willing to take a chance on the unknown
What's so great about heaven? I'll see my mama again.
Where would you like to see her? In heaven as a spirit? Or, here on earth as a flesh and blood human being? I submit the latter eventuality IS supported by the bible.
Rather see where she will be well again and whole.
Well, heaven has the streets made out of gold right? Thats kind of cool.
Hey Neo.
I think there was another thread something along the lines of "Design your own heaven."
Anyway, the consensus seemed to be that most classical descriptions of heaven sound pretty boring...
Hey I have a pretty good friend who is a pastor. His wife just passed away. Prior to her death, he asked her "Do you think we'll recognize each other in heaven?" She said "No. We'll be there but we won't recognize one another."
Now its an interesting relationship they have, because even though he's the pastor, he defers to her on matters of faith, like he thinks she knows the real stuff more than himself.
And he was saddened to hear she sort of believes in an impersonal heaven. That is, she believes we won't see our families & friends up there, etc.
Yet they both seemed to be very kind of traditional Christians...if there is such a thing.
I was just suprised to hear of a Christian that seemed to believe we'll be in heaven, but more as something like dispersed energy glowing...we won't be like recognizable to one another like "oh there's my sister."
Anyone ever hear of this kind of Christian idea of heaven? Sort of impersonal like that?
Agobard, Archbisop of Lyons wrote:Things of such absurdity are believed by Christians as no one aforetime could induce the heathens to believe.
I don't think things have changed. The truth is much too elementary for the lofty minds of the clergy.
eoe nailed it I think.
That's exactly what is great about the promise of heaven.
Death need not be faced. My loved ones don't die and nor do I.
Yay!
That's exactly what is great about the promise of religion.
Reality need not be faced. My loved ones don't die and nor do I.
Yay!
Is there an echo in here?
I think it's just an episode of "When Quotations Go Bad!"
Will there be scantily clad young ladies such as one might find in "When Supermodels Go Bad?"
No, but the editors assure me there will be some pretty saucy quotes, some naked metaphors and maybe even bare-faced lies!
Oooo . . . i can't wait ! ! !
