Some of the best trivia you wish to share with others

Trivia may be considered unimportant, but some are fun to know about. For example, on my recent visit to Malta, I learned that the temples built in Malta are older than the pyramids of Egypt. I didn't know that until my visit to Malta, but I think that's interesting trivia. I'm sure most of us have heard of other trivia that has universal appeal - just to have that knowledge. How about it? Share yours.

I was told that a banana is technically a herb and not a fruit...I don't know how true it is...so don't quote me on it!

shewolf, Great link to show the similarities between the cultures and pyramids of South America and Egypt. Amazing stuff; I'm gonna need to rethink why there so many similarities between the two, and the Negroid features are just fascinating, and also something to think about. Thanks for sharing.

The two i always tell people (because i know that they are true)

-A pig's orgasm lasts for 22 minutes - not the half an hour most forwards of trivia will tell you (i know this because mum's degree is in rural science... guess what she had to do Wink)
- Cat's urine glows under black light

And here is something i only learnt recently (in a German exam of all places...)
Birmingham (UK) has more canals than venice!!! Surprised

Hi Bekaboo, Interesting info on the canals of Birmingham (UK). Most people don't know that Berlin and St Petersburg are also canal cities. Wink

Bananas do not actually grow on trees. They grow on giant herbs related to the Lily and Orchid family

It's true! Did a UK google and found this!

I heard today that Norway is the third major oil producing nation, after Saudi Arabia and Russia. I didn't know that.

Hey, C.I. I just found out that Clary Sage is a smoothing body butter which also contains buchu leaf. Damn, and all this time I thought she was a lexicographer.

If one wants to purchase a snake, the price is figured by the foot.

Also, bananas often grow in a climate far below the equator, so you should never put bananas in your refrigerator. oh, no, no, no.

Lexicographers can be smooth.
Snakes don't have feet.
Far below the equator it's quite cold.
What the devil is buchu leaf?

Clary, I have no idea what buchu leaf is. I received a nice little cosmetic kit as a gift and since I always look at the contents, I was delighted not to know what buchu was. What's a foot in the metric system?

beurre lissant pour le corps avec sauge sclaree germes de bie et feuilles de buchu. That's French for stuff.

Hee Hee. Ah, the cosmetic business.

Here's another bit of interesting trivia. In Virginia, one would pay a very fancy price for potted Asparagus ferns. Here, I just pulled up about a thousand pounds(not sterling)
