My geography of the US leaves a little to be desired.
I'm hearing "Stairway to Heaven" in the background as I look at that.
Is this in a public building?

That practically qualifies you for citizenship here.
It is not on the east coast, thus quite not New York.
It does have to do with contemporary architecture.
It is an escalator,
(and the building is public).
Osso, it the place in Pennsylvania or upstate New York? We need some hints. Escalators are rather common.
Sorry. Cross posts. West Coast of the U.S.?
perhaps it's Staten Island
Found this one in Hollywood, California:
Well, is it in California?
It's either in Italy, in a museum/art building or connected to some architectural highlight
You got it, Walter. I'll try to remember if I've ever not followed that trend..
It's in a famous architecture?
Well, not as famous as Gehry's Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, I don't think, but it's by an equivalently famouse architect.
I found a better photo of that escalator, but I can't post it because you'd then guess immediately, and you're going to find it soon enough anyway....
I'm not sure, if it is the correct one (out of 30 possible, five are "maybe's" ) but the structure (on your pic seen mirroring) looks very similar:
Seattle Public Library
Oh, you smartypants!
I can't see the photo, but that's the place. Back with some photos of my own..
