Letty, you are right it is Holland, and sorry Ellinas it was not Delft, your post co-incided with mine and I just noticed it.
Letty again stick 'Delta Works' in google, this time not in images, and you should find plenty of information about this gigantic piece of engineering. I visited the place some years ago and it was awe-inspiring!
