Well, Miss Letty, there aren't too many places in the northern hemisphere
that have a desert landscape, camels and nomades. Africa is already ruled
out, there are none in the United States or Europe, so that leaves only Asia.

The Taklamakan desert is located in West China. Like most deserts, the Taklamakan is extremely hot and dry during the day, and very cold at night. Also like most deserts there is very little rainfall. This makes vegetation hard to come by in the Taklamakan Desert. Here and there, deserts have small areas with lush vegetation, most likely caused by an underground waterway.
