Possibly the grave site of Genghis Kahn.
C.I. I just threw in the.................
If you know the place, please go ahead and post it, honey. Now I am curious to see exactly where it is. All I could find was the remnants of his former palace.
Letty, I'm still "guessing" too! It's a tough one.
I'm like you Letty & CI, been looking all over Mongolia
Would it be a mausoleum you think?
ehBeth et al, It seems from what I've been able to gather, stone pyramids like your picture seems to indicate a grave site.
My word. I thought C.I. knew all this time, Dutchy.
ehBeth may be right, but it doesn't resemble spider's place. I think grave sites marked by a pile of stone are called cairns.
Could it be a road sign, or a border indicator perhaps?
Letty, OUCH! The only Cairns I know of is in Australia. LOL
the travelchina guide identifies that particular pile of stones as the tomb of Genghis Khan

Hee hee! Well, C.I. allow me to introduce you to some great stone faces.
Well, we will just have to await the arrival of the spider, I guess, Beth.
I found that one too eBeth, but where are the mountains?
seems ghenghis khan could have been buried just about anywhere - depending on which website you look at
satt's definitely got it
now I need to reconsider my definition of monument
satt, how DID you do that?

It's definitely your turn.
Letty, Karakorum, Mongolia is not in the Karakoram Range..
Now, where am I?
satt, I knew that, of course. (sure I did). Europe?
Nobody seems to know where Genghis Khan is actually buried.
Search for Genghis Khan's tomb The final resting place of the Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan is at the centre of a three-year study by an historical expedition team. The Ghengis Khan Geo-Historical expedition is searching possible burial sites. One area is Mongolia's Hentii Province, at Ogloochiin Hereem, a site which includes a 3-kilometre wall, possibly once a stone fort. Team leader John Woods, of the University of Chicago, stated: "One of the interesting things is the tomb of the 100 soldiersÂ…Legend has it that 50 soldiers were detailed to bury him and they were killed by 50 others who in turn killed themselves." The archaeologists found a graveyard at the site where they found bones and evidence of burning. Also, the "fully preserved skeleton of a man in a wooden coffin with some iron artefacts and implements," Mr Woods added. Other areas of the graveyard are now to be excavated. In the creation of a vast empire, tributes and wealth flowed into Mongolia but Mr Woods states: " One argument runs that no object from that period has ever surfaced in any museum or private collection anywhere in the world. So where is all that stuff?" Not everyone in Mongolia approves of the dig, however. Former Prime Minister Dashiin Byambasuren stated: "They were driving on top of this sacred ground and putting up buildings right near the wall. They were cutting down trees, digging up holy soil, and putting human bones in pans. It seems that they want to build a tourist attraction." (May 27th)
