Mansfield Memorial on the Ned Kelly touring route. This monument was funded by public donations and commemorates the three policeman killed at Stringybark Creek..

MANSFIELD POLICE MONUMENT.

The monument is located in the center of my home town and is dedicated to three policeman killed by Ned Kelly and his gang in the hills near my town.

Ned was an outtlaw (we say Bushranger) in the same vein as Billy the kid.
He fashioned armour from plough steel to protect himself from police bullets.

Ned is something of a folk hero in Australia.
