Okay, I'm not usually so picky, Dutchy and spidergal, so here is another hint. I can't verify it, so you'll have to rely on my memory. <smile>

The place that I have in mind was so named because it was treacherous for sailors, and hence the euphemism. The companies that were backing exploration named it this on purpose.
