It looks Japanese, doesn't it? But you laugh, if you'd know where....

I thought you weren't suppose to ask a bunch of questions.
It appears that different rules apply depending on the member.

I don't know to which "rules" you refer here and now.

This is the original starter (from thread 1):

http://i13.tinypic.com/4y0ekb9.jpg

As far as I remember, no-one really ever looked strictly at them, e.g. the '20-question-thing' rarely was followed ever during the nearly four years we are doing this now.

"We'll see where this leads" - and since I started this second thread, I changed nothing.

TTH, I see no harm in asking questions, one has to make a start somewhere because if you have absolute no idea, where do you start? I have googled "odd houses, buildings etc" for almost an hour without success, so my next question to C/J will be, is it in the Southern Hemisphere?

Actually - see my response above/thread No. 1 - the idea is to pose questions, up to 20.

And since I've been on this thread from nearly the first day onwards: I can't remember to have ever heard/read something about 'rules', especially not pose questions.

Thank you Walter, I have refreshed my memory, so for all to see here are the original suggestions for this game:

Posted: Sat Nov 15, 2003 9:43 am Post: 441326 - WHERE AM I? --Travel Game

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pose the question in one of two ways.

1. Post a picture

OR:

2. (If you can't or don't want to post a picture) Describe a place with 3 clues. i.e:

1. dry.
2. hot.
3. rocks.

Answer: (Zion National Monument)

Then we have 20 yes or no questions to get it.

Whoever guesses correctly goes next.

The place can be general for instance: England.
Or the place can be more specific: 10 Downing St.

The question answer will decide how specific he or she wants the answer to be.

Be specific when choosing a place. "At a waterfall" is too general but "Niagra Falls" is okay.

No fictional places: i.e. "Never-Neverland"

Generally the place will be of Historical, Geographic, or of some notoriety, but we'll see where this leads

Google all you want!

We can tweak the rules as we go if neccesary.

NO CHEATING i.e. looking up urls! Thank you.

TTH, the real pleasure in playing this game, is not asking a lot of questions,
but instead looking for yourself if you could find the picture.
Frutillar, Chile
I was talking about this post directly to me when I was asking questions to try to find out the country or continent the picture was dealing with.

TTH wrote:
Then this is definitely not the game for me. I most likely couldn't find it if I didn't know the country. Thanks CalamityJane
I will follow along on occasion instead Smile
This was my response and no one posted otherwise.

Maybe CalamityJane forgot that some of us need to ask questions, I don't know?

Walter Hinteler and Dutchy thank you for clearing that up. I know rules change sometimes but, I don't want to read over 2,000+ pages to find where. If I did, I would still be reading.

TTH, always go back to page 1 of a thread, you'll find all the information there. Hope this helps.

I did go to page 1 and read the rules. I also know that sometimes the rules change or vary from page 1
of the thread. That is why I asked about the rules here: http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2791070#2791070

So, I guess you could say that does clear up a couple of things.

Since only those outside the USA could win the free round-the-world-flight for guessing the correct place .... this wasn't included in the rules.

Actually, this isa fun thread, and the rules are more or less just guidelines to go along .... without long discussions like e.g. on "politics" or "religion".

Certainly everyone is free to start such.

I'd like to go on, however ...

Southern hemishere, CJ, to resume negotiations?

Walter I suggested that already, I have a sneaking suspicion it is downunder in view of what C/J said earlier. Laughing

Still about questions:

- Asking questions to no end is a really time consuming thing, as it needs to be at the computer for hours.

- In addition, asking too many questions, is not, IMO, the original intent of the game. With the answers alone, one can then find the place even not looking for the place on the internet.

- So, players should post a picture with enough hints in itself as one can find it, even without questions.

I bid you all goodnight and will most probably read the result tomorrow morning (our time).
