Nameless faces with a story to tell
Of how their lives overnight did unravel
Stop and look deep into their eyes
See if you can unmask their disguise
See the emotional scars of how they were deprived
Try to see if a slight glimpse of their past survived
If only they could reminisce
For who they once were no longer exists.
Nameless faces sustaining life
Regardless of their current strife
Only because they've learned to improvise
Living at substandard levels along with their impoverished allies
Given no tools, only cigarette butts and hard luck
Begging, "Hey lady can ya spare a buck?"
At soup kitchens,in long lines do they stand
If only those on the other side of the counter could really understand.
Transient hearts shiver in their cardboard box
Hiding from the winters harsh weather
As society sits in their living rooms, sipping whiskey on the rocks
While having their Yuletide get together.
Stop and look deep into their transient hearts
See if you can understand why from society they did depart
See if the travesties that brought their lives to a halt
Try not to pass judgement or find fault
If only they could step back in time
for why they once were, they too stood in their prime.
