Yep, but you need an OCR package (Optical Character Recogniton) most scanners come with one - check the install disks or scanner doco and see if it's already on your computer. If it is just run it and it should detect the scanners twain driver and provide enough online help to get you started.

Probably the best is OCR software I've used is Omnipage which can do some really cool scanning into MSoffice things - but it ain't cheap.

I ended up deciding that it wasn't worth all of the hassle to scan those photocopies.
I'll keep your suggestion in mind if I decide to try it out later on.
