I posted an earlier variant of this poem on the 'Spontaneous Poetry' thread shortly after Cardinal Ratzinger was named as the new Pope:
Poem for the Disappointed
Sequestered in An ancient hall,
-and praying- They await, 'The Call',
Churchly Princes -Princes all,
The throng awaits as in a thrall,
Teeming, swaying, on the mall,
and guessing,wondering, praying, all,
But who is that one standing tall?
'Il Papa Novo' of them all!
(For some delirium, others gall)
Some spirits rise, and others fall.
O take me to the Wailing Wall....
The Holy Spirit dropped the ball.
-jjorge
Amen.
Wonderfully well-put. I watched the live proceedings and remember it just like that!
I'd like to send this to a friend... unless you'd prefer I didn't.
Sure, go ahead -especially if he is another among the disappointed.
She is one of the "galled."
Considering the national origin of the former Cardinal Ratzinger,
You might say we have collectively been 'Gauled'
nice poem. you've attempted to do a difficult thing here in making each line rhyme but i think it works pretty well.
we talked about him in history today...
his name, benedict, is chosen after st. benedict the 6th century italian founder of european monastacism...this was chosen to reinforce the concept of a christian europe. he is the first german pope since the 11th century...and he is head of the modern organization that was once the Roman Inquisition.
