I'm not exactly sure what motivated the piece but it is pretty much a poem about renewal and a new begining.

Portrait

Stuck in this fictional reality,
Lost in this distorted portrait of me,
Bound by conventional fundamentals,
My heart and mind just rentals,
The mirror no longer reflects,
Even the most common rejects,
Contained in contemplation,
As I consider my expiration,
The paint begins to fade,
Must I leave my mental masquerade,
Hiding my humanity,
Hiding my insanity,
Must I expose myself,
Must I come off the shelf,
Or do I confide in my own,
Do I preserve the picture not shown,
Deranged and deprived,
Rearranged I never arrived,
The artist now lacks paint,
My portrait growing more and more feint,
The dark begins to dim,
As the light begins to slim,
The twilight attacks,
As false fidelity shines through the cracks,
My breathing speeds,
As the shine grows the seeds,
Lost in an eloquent rage,
I turned the page,
Down goes the pain,
Down the drain,
The memory dies,
I will not bury myself in your lies,
Broken chains lie behind,
And me you will not find,
Filled with a new rush,
The artist picks up a new brush.

No single line in that hit me hard, because the different length lines mean i automatically read it quite fast and don't really pause to think.

I like the metaphor of the artist but i think it needs extending
