hi,

I tried to use Ad-aware to scan my computer, but it will auto restart the during the process. I tried to install Antivirus as well, but it is always unsuccessful when the installation almost finish. I tried to scan online, but the pages won't load. It will auto-restart some other time as well. I am cracking my head about this now.

Please help.
Thank you.

It could be a virus or a hardware problem. More information is always helpful, age of machine, OS you are running.

If you have Hijak post a readout from that and some very good people here to help you.

Hi picca
Go Here download and install Cleanup!
Open up the program and click on the cleanup button, Let it do it's thing.
It will ask you to reboot do so,
When the computer restarts it will open again and finish running allow it to do so please,

Next,
Next Reboot into SAFE MODE
Run a scan with Ad-aware and have it fix all it finds,

Reboot to normal mode run another scan and see how it goes.

See this Topic
Run through the steps outlined in it please,
Post back a fresh HJT log to this post please

Hi Don77,

I'd installed CleanUp! and had it run. It cleaned plenty of files. But I noticed something strange, which is, it always showed a file name 'index.dat' in different folder, is currently in use, and cannot be deleted, will be deleted after restart. I restarted the PC for a couple of times, but it still happened to have the same file with same statement again.

I ran Ad-aware with safe-mode. Deleted a few files. But when I tried to run it in Normal mode, the PC restarted again.

This is fine,

Are you using Ad-aware SE ? If so when you install it did you uninstall Ad-aware 6 first ?
If thats the case,
You'll want to go through and check and make sure it was all removed,
Probably easiest way to do this is to remove Ad-aware and any files/folders related to it then reinstall Ad-aware SE.
Need you to look for it and be sure you get it all, check for the Lavasoft folder ( this would be where you saved it to), any links in the start up menu, desk top icons.

For a good measure click Start> Find Files/Folders>Type in aaw into the box ( be sure your checking C: the files and folders should show up in the bottom window> Right click on them and choose delete, Empty your recycle bin

Then go back to the Topic I posted earlier and download and install it again please, Be sure and check it for updates, and run a scan with it,

Lets us know how you make out please

Ad-Aware SE is the only version I have here. This is the first one I installed. None was installed before this.
