I know that there is an extensive collection of photos on my computer; they are either in the Windows XP software, or in Word 2000 (less likely). I came across them once a couple of years ago by accident, never needed to find them again, and now can't figure out where they are and how to access them. Rolling Eyes

These aren't my own photos, BTW, but images that came with the software.

I've tried Search under "pictures", "images", "photos" and "photographs", but the collection I'm thinking of doesn't show up anywhere.

Can anyone suggest how I can access this really large collection?

If you have an idea of what the topmost folder would be, you could start
there and search for files named *.jpg. That would give you a list of
every JPEG in that folder and its subfolders.

Try Google's free Picasa2 - if there are image files on your machine, it'll prolly find 'em for ya, and organize 'em into relatively manageable sets. That's its job.

Interesting. I tried it, but it does not find all the pix. Not even all the ones und "My Pictures."

Now, that's interestin', George; when I first installed it and had it scour my entire system for image files, it took a good long while, but even found stuff I'd long ago forgotten about on an outboard drive. Mebbe our differin' experiences have to do with the inscrutable capriciousness of the gods of data.

Nope, nothin' objectionable that I've noticed - and I sorta tend to notice that kinda stuff. It'll set some harmless - well, actually usefull - cookies, but thats about it. No personal data gatherin', no ad-servin, no invitin' freinds in once it has a home on your machine. For what my take might be worth to anyone, I trust it.

Yes, Picasa is good, and seems really clean.

Would Picasa find pix that I didn't take? These photos were in Windows XP, I'm pretty sure, but I can't dig them out. I'll try the *.jpg approach, and Picasa, though. Thanks.

OK, Timber, if you're still following this, I have a realted question for you.

Some time ago, I set a photo as my background (Win 2000 OS).
Later, I replaced it with another photo.
Now, when I boot, the first photo comes up in the interim between
the "loading" screens and the final presentation of the desktop when the
second photo comes up.

How come?

I deleted the first photo - or thought I had - but it's apparently still
somewhere. Any idea where Windows has it cached?

Searching for background images & photos in the system
The collection of photos should be in:
C/documents & settings/ user name/local settings/temp/data

Note: user name should be the one that logs on when winxp opens as under documents & settings you will have the following too-administrator,all users, default user etc, you may not find the temp/data folders in any of these. If u logon under a particular name look out for this folder in documents & setting & then proceed to Local settings/temp/data
All files ending with .bmp .jpg .tiff .gif are image files.

OK, Catch22, I'll try it. The other suggestions were interesting, but didn't work.
