Is there such thing as Ghosts?

Anyone seen the movie "Ghost" starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze? I want to see it prob because the starring song is "Unchained melodies."

Great film, had a family tradition of watching it on new years. Plus the song rocks.

Watchdog - the family tradition thing is really interesting!! Can you believe it - the film has been around for ages, but I don't know - or my idea of the story line is only very hazy - all I can understand is that the Swayze character got killed in a bank robbery (actually, I am not even clear about THAT) and he came back to warn Moore's character that the robbers were coming back for her, via Whoopi Goldberg? How did it end? Don't worry about spoiling it for me - its exciting even if I know the ending. Thats why I read harry Potter books 10 times each year

Been a few years since I've seen it but I'll see what I can remember.

Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) works at the bank but what he doesn't know is that one of the people he supervises (I think his name is Carl) has been systematically robbing the bank to put $4m in a bank account under a fake name. Sam changes his computer password which stops Carl from using Sam's computer to steal the money (he didn't have enough access himself).

The problem is that Carl sees Sam put the piece of paper with the code on it in his wallet. Carl hires a thug to steal Sam's wallet to get the passcode. During the course of the robbery Sam gets shot and dies. Heavenly light opens up but he steps out of the beam when he sees his wife down by the body and the beam dissappears.

So Sam starts following his wife... no wait, she's his girlfriend, he's too afraid of commitment to say he loves her... around which is when the murderer comes back to his house while his girlfriend is home. The piece of paper had been taken out of the wallet and was at the house so the murderer is going back to search for it. Sam can't do anything about it though, he can't touch anything.

He knows the cat can see him though so he scares the cat until it attacks the murderer who cries out and runs off. Sam follows the murderer back to his house and finds out who he is. On the way he gets attacked by another ghost, a ghost who can affect physical objects, but he escapes.

Sam meets Whoopi Gholdberg, a supposed psychic who has been faking it her whole life. While he sits in on her tricking a client he makes a rude comment about her act and she hears it. So he annoys her until she agrees to go warn the girlfriend about the murderer.

Meanwhile Carl has been hitting on Moore, trying to get in her pants so he can find out the password. Moore resists though and Carl agrees to just be friends.

Using Sam's personal knowledge Whoopi convinces Moore that she really can talk to Sam. She tells Moore the name of the murderer. Moore confides in the first person who'll listen though... Carl, who recognises the name. Carl talks her out of believing, which is particularly helped when she goes to the police and find out that Whoopi has a record as a con artist.

Sam finds out about Carl's plot (not sure exactly how) and is determined to stop it. He starts learning everything he can about his ghostly powers. He goes to the ghost who attacked him who could move physical objects and confronts him, insisting that the other ghost teach him how to do it. He finds another ghost who can possess people and so learns he can do that (briefly but it completely drains his power).

He foils their plot by getting Whoopi to create a fake ID and withdraw the four million which they give to charity. Desperate to warn his girlfriend he sends Whoopi back and floats a coin to proove that he's there. Then in order to touch his girlfriend one more time he possesses whoopi (weird situation). However in doing so he completely drains his powers... just at the point where Carl and the Murderer break into the house planning on killing Whoopi and Moore.

Whoopi helps Moore up into the collapsing attic and they hide there for a while, which gives Sam a bit of time to regain his powers while the murderers search for them. He then fights the two murders who (conveniently since the main character can't kill them and still be a good guy :wink:) die in accidents from the collapsing scenery.

The two bad guys get dragged off to hell and having protected his girlfriend the heavenly light appears again. This time Sam moves on but at the last second his girlfriend (and whoopi) can see him which gives him a chance to finally say "I love you".

Fade to white.
End.

Ohhh...its romantic. I am still into schoolgirl wide-eyed-romance, can't help it. Now I really want to watch the movie!!

About 4 years ago.... I was getting ready to go to bed and was about to shut off the light when I looked down my hallway and saw a man with dark hair and dark eyes sitting on my dining room chair staring at me... or what seemed he was staring through me... He didn't seem to know I was there but he looked so angry. I used to here a man and a woman fighting in my house when I was the only one there... I thought I left the tv on and when I went to check the voices where still there but the tv was off... I think he was the man I have alwyas heard... and then the woman, I saw her once... standing in front of my bedroom window in her bra and underwear... she looked beaten and tired.. she was staring at the sky crying.... as if looking up to heaven.... Then she was gone.... But when I saw him I blinked and he was still there and then I blinked again and he was gone... When I looked around there was nobody there.... I've seen a few other things but nothing like that.. I will never forget it!! I remember being little and being scared to go into the basement because he was down there and was mad.. I called him MArtin and the girl Emily.... don't know why.... I think I just shifted into another plane... or dimension... a higher plane maybe!

Wow! I've had some experiences, but nothing so vivid!

Montana.. call me crazy wait everyone does) but I went to a psychic and they said I had a gift... One thinks I can tune my mind into other dimensions (or planes) and it used to scare me but know I am used to it... I can also sense when death is in the air... and I did last month and for the first time I told someone and then a girl they neew passed away.... I've been able to do that for years know.. I've been able to sense maybe 6 or 7 deaths in the left 4 years... It scares the **** out of me and I am also wondering who it is gonna be.... Like I said call me crazy but I swear on my life that it is true!
