My old version of IE would automatically minimize a new window if you clicked on a link enabling you to continue browsing the page you are on while the other fully loads.
My new IE6 automatically pops the new window up and you must manually minimize it while it loads.
Is there a setting for this that I am missing somewhere?
Thanks,
David Nix
See what happens if you go to your desktop, right-click on your IE icon, select "Properties", then in the dropdown labled "Run:", select "Minimized", click Apply>OK.
Desktop Icon Did Not Work
There is no "run" on the drop down menu. There is a "properties" that only takes you to the options menu of IE6.
Any other suggestions?
If you're runnin Windows, 9x and later, when you right-click on a desktop icon and select "properties", it should open the shortcut icon's control panel. The panel should have at least a couple tabs, "General" and "Shortcut" . On the "Shortcut" tab, you should see listed at the top the application's icon and the applcation's name. In the pane below that should be:
Target type: Application
Target Location: (whatever - usually similar to the app's name)
Target: [a dialog box showin' the path to the target]
In the pane below that should be
Start in: [startup folder to which the app is assigned, if any]
Shortcut Key [ usually "none", unlss you've set up a macro for the app]
Run: [the dropdown I'm talkin' about]
below that should be at least a couple bars
"Find Target" and "Change Icon"
At the bottom should be "OK" Cancel" and "Apply"
Dependin' on what version of Windows you're runnin', you may have more tabs and options, but from Win 95 on up, thats the way its supposed to work.
Icon Different
I should have mentioned earlier, but I am running Windows XP. When I right click on the Internet Explorer desktop icon, I get a small control panel that has these options in the following order; Open Home Page, Create Shortcut, Delete, Rename and Properties. When you click on Properties, the Internet Explorer "internet options" window opens.
There is no Run or Run As or anything else. Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks
Dunno I'd say you're doin' anything "wrong", but what you're describin' ain't what's s'posed to happen. When you right-click on a desktop icon, you shoud get an option list, at the bottom of which will be "Properties" . Selectin' ""properties" should bring up a control panel for the application connected to that shortcut. Below is a screenshot from a machine runnin' WinXP
OK
OK. I see the little control panel but I am definitely not get that. Is there another way to raise that control panel besides going through the icon?
Thanks,
David
Perhaps you could get the effect you're after by openin' a browser window from within an already-open browser widow, resizin' it, closin' all browser widows, then relaunchin' your browser. Off hand, there are some registry edits that would get the desired effect done for ya without goin' thru the icon's control panel, but I don't suggest playin' with the registry as a rule. If somethin' else occurs to me, I'll sure get back to ya.
