I have a Uncle serving in the Army in Iraq, we have been mailing him stuff APO by the US Postal Service.

What supplies do they need or want, and what's the best way to mail to them?

I had a friend over there. I sent him things that I knew he liked to snack on. Don't send chocolate during warm weather though. It gets extremely warm over there.

Also, I used to go to the book store and buy paperbacks. I told him when he finished them, to pass them on to the other guys. That went over pretty good also.

If he has a cd player you can send him CD's, too.

Just make sure to pack everything good and use lots of bubble wrap. I would buy extra heavy boxes to send his things in. You really can't trust regular boxes because it's such a long distance for it to travel.

Oh....the guys over there loved things they could mix with plain water to made a drink. Such as instant cocoa and ESPECIALLY Tang! Smile

Also.....I would send him some hometown newspapers so he could know what was going on back home.

"Thanks!" After it ends up at the APO, if the package is detariating, the APO, will put the old package in a new package before they send it off to the soilder.

Boomer, lookin' over that list, apart from the DVDs and mebbe the microwave and other "new age" ( ) stuff, that's about the same as it woulda been 4 decades ago. I remember cassette tape "letters from home", chunky peanut butter, and aftershave bein' real heartwarmers back then, too.

America Supports You, maintained by the US Department of Defense[/i][/u], is a comprehensive portal, providing access to hundreds of legitimate, officially sanctioned organizations, activities, and facillities in support of US Military and US Military families, at home and abroad.

The US Postal Service provides a detailed FAQ (hope that link works - timber) regarding US and foreign postal regulations pertaining to mail and packages to be sent to military members.
