Talk about shoes. When we were kids, we were so poor, we had to buy Gallen Kamp shoes. After about of month of wear, the soles had holes in them, so we stuck cardboard in them to keep wearing them. The irony: After I graduated from college, I went to work for Florsheim Shoe Company, the premier shoe company of this country. I haven't worked for Florsheim for half a century, but my Florsheim's still looks new. I don't wear them daily, but mostly during holidays and vacation.
