On Radio 4 a while back there was a documentary on the rise of the permissive society and the backlash by people like Mary twatting Whitehouse.
One of the items discussed was the obscenity trial of O Calcutta. One thing that stood out was that one of the judges was a specialist in maritime law which seems a bit odd.
What makes it quite farcical is that said judge was an expert in bottomry, the definition given below, but clearly whoever was putting the panel together thought it meant something else.
