New James Bond unveiled

Producers of the hugely successful James Bond film franchise have chosen British actor Daniel Craig to take over the role of the suave spy.

The 37-year-old has been offered a three-film deal by Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and is expected to sign up formally in the next few weeks, the Sun newspaper reported.

Craig, a tough-looking actor who has made appearances in art-house titles and blockbusters such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, beat fellow Briton Clive Owen for the role.

Craig would be the sixth Bond in the official series of films based on the novels by Ian Fleming, following Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and most recent incumbent Pierce Brosnan.

According to the Sun, Owen -- nominated for an Oscar this year for Closer -- had told casting agents he did not want the job, although Broccoli was already favouring Craig. While Craig remains relatively unknown outside Britain, he is well respected as an actor and also has the necessary reputation for being something of a Bond-esque ladies man, having recently dated supermodel Kate Moss.

Citing an unnamed 'movie source,' the Sun said staff working at Eon Productions, which makes the Bond movies, had been told Craig would star in the next films.

Me neither. I think that Sean Connery was "the" James Bond. Brosnan came in second, and the others were not even in the race!

Bella Dea- (Don't know who these guys are)

Top picture- Too young. Bond needs to have an air of sophistication.

Lower picture- Too wholesome looking.

First one is Collin Ferrel. Hot hot hot. Kind of a bad boy. I think he could pull off the confidence.

Second one is Hugh Jackman. He played Wolverine in XMen and whoo hoo was he HOT!!!! And he is a great actor.

Clive Owen was being considered who would have been a dynamite Bond but I can imagine he refused the role!

Eric Bana could possibly pull it off -- I don't think Clive Owen wanted to get into an identifying part. Ever since I saw him in "Gosford Park" I got the vibes he was a very independent man just from the way he approaches his acting. Not so, Pierce nor Roger. Sean got involved early on but I think the opportunity was ripe and the onset of the series was exciting then. Although I still enjoy the Bond films as action flicks, they have become almost dismally repetitive. Even the "big idea" of the "threatening technology" is getting pedestrian. It has really become the same movie done over and over again.

I think Daniel Craig was good in Tomb Raider, but as James Bond? Why did they get rid of Pierce Brosnan?!!!!!!!

I don't believe Craig will be that bad and Brosnan was, I think, tired of the role. I believe it was him that decided he didn't want to do another. The main problem is not the actor who plays Bond but the stagnation of the scripting and inventing new gadgets and action sequences. The barrel may have dried up.

Pierce Brosnan was perfect for the role.

Daniel Craig is average looking and doesn't seem to have
the charissma of a Pierce Brosnan. What a shame!

I agree, you look at Pierce Brosnan and he's got all the things you expect in James Bond. Good looks, Charisma, sophistication etc etc...Daniel Craig...can't really imagine him saying a classic line like 'Bond, James Bond.' or 'Vodka martini, shaken, not stirred.'!!! Confused
Bring back Pierce Brosnan!!! Crying or Very sad

I don't know -- dress him up in a Savoy suit and he could pull it off. He has the more rugged look and is definitely built better than the hairy sponge.

Quote:
Daniel Craig [..] decided that he'd quite like to be James Bond in Casino Royale, and had a shitstorm unleashed on him as a consequence. [..] Craig said that he hated guns - a reasonable enough statement, really, but one that had him labelled as a "crazy liberal" with no right to step into the James Bond tuxedo and say sleazy things to women with ridiculous names.

Fans Boycott James Bond, Roger Moore Generally Disappointed

Btw, some of you are now passonate about Brosnan, but I remember that when he first got the part, it seemed literally everyone was moaning and lamenting the reputation of Bond, now someone as un-Bond-like as him got the part...

I don't know who objected to Brosnan, (men probably)
but he was perfect for the role.
Similar to Roger Moore, Brosnan had this cool, debonaire
side to him as Bond, that made him all the more alluring
to the audience.

Unfortunately, most young actors lack a certain
stage presence and the charisma to capture a movie crowd.
