Photos don't open description when clicked on

I have an issue for weeks already: when I click on a photo on my macbook air the info of the photos that should be on the right side of my desktop does not appear *no matter what photo I click on* - I can't edit or see the photo's description, number of likes, or comments, can I get some help?! I'd love to attach a screen shot to explain it better, but I can't find this option here. Thank you for any kind of help, it drives me crazy for weeks...
