Glad you don't mind, Bill. You kinda answered the question I had about residency. You can move there as a retiree. You can invest ($50,000) minimum. Or you can come and go.

Isn't there any allowance for a person who wants to go there and stay? I can't retire yet (I'm too young), and I don't got 50 grand.

I'll do some more investigating. There's a lot more I need to know.

It truly sounds like a wonderful place.

Factor in $50-$60 per month or so for overnight trips to Nicaragua twice a year, and residency ceases to matter. All you need is the passport stamps to keep it legal. Depending upon the time of year; you can book a flight to Miami for $400 or so. If you simply view it as an expense, it really doesn't add much, compared to what you save. Imagine buying a decent prepared lunch for under a $1.50.

I gotta schlep to Nicaragua? I've got enough trouble hauling my ass across town. Confused

Like I said, I have more investigating to do, but I'm very interested. Gonna start brushing up on my Spanish.

I haven't been around much lately and came upon this, sorry to hear about the troubles but glad everything seems to be working out. We have to meet for a couple beers before you hightail it out of here, not to mention you can't go to Costa Rica without your shades. Cool I might be heading up to Devils Head to do some skiing in a couple weeks, let me know if you want to meet up.

Ah! Another stranger heard from.

Sublime (and anyone else who can make it), I've be chatting with Bill by PM about a final get-together before he leaves. I'll probably discuss details on the Chicago thread once Bill gives me a time frame.

Yep, they don't get much stranger than me.

Sounds good, any tentative dates in mind? I will be in MI next weekend but nothing else set in stone.

Nothing set in stone yet, though my contract negotiations are essentially complete and VERY satisfactory. The last detail is just a preventative measure I want to include to avoid friction down the road.

I'm frantically trying to tie up loose ends in preparation for the move... and hope to be on the road by the end of the month. There's a LOT of loose ends left, so no definite dates yet.

Then we better get busy. I'm going to move the planning discussion to the Chicago thread because that's where more of the locals will find it.
