i was just rummaging through my "stuff" box getting my passport out and came accross a gold coin i picked up in London oh so many years ago and i have no idea what it is. its gold about the size of an american dime, on one side is a man on a horse and the date "1919' on the other side it says " GEORGEIVS D.G.BRITT OMN REX F.D.IND IMP
so any idea what it is?
coin
It is a combination of English and Latin and means; "George IV, King of Great Britan and Emperor of India". Ciao, Dov
Does the feller on the horse look like this?

because it looks like you've got a sovereign or half sovereign.

roz exactly and its 1918 which your site says was only minted in Perth.
Oh, it's not worth nuttin' really. Send it and any other shiny predecimal coins like it to this address.....
dear mr stillwater, while i do appreciate your willingness to relieve me of my pocket change, this specific coin is really not worth very much from what i found, 65 pounds sterling is not exactly the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow so i believe i will just keep in my box of "stuff"
65 pounds sterling ain't nuttin', neither!
(Have been moseying around that site you posted, roz, thanks. Interesting.)
Curses, foiled again!!
But Dyspepsia, seeing that you do have a little extra folding money I have this hot deal I could split with you. Apparently after the fall of the previous Nigerian government.....
65 quid is about 100 bucks. How many packs of ciggies is that ?
These days, about four in New York City.
