Hello, Switch-Twitch

Here's a link to the Australian government's immigration information website. I think you'll find most of the "official" information you need to know here:

http://www.immi.gov.au/

Good luck!

My early perceptions of Australia were from a few trips into rather hot dry places. Now my entire perception of the country is driven by talking Felix's, Bunnies and a cartoon dog. This doesnt hel the image of your fine land. At least Blatham dresses in regulation red wool suits

Has i think it's great to be a citizen of new country, it's like to move on the moon. Smile In my country it is difficult to live to people which have stay'd in it after disintegration of the USSR. I was born in Estonia and i'm a citizen of Estonia, but for radical Estonians it's not important because i'm a Russian speaking, i have Russian surname, and it some kind of a "sign" because of which will hard to get a good education and get a good job. You probably heard that in the Baltic countries canceled education schools in Russian? In Latvia for example has cancelled education in Russian, and Estonian goverment will cancel education in Russian from next year. Ofcourse it's not all the reasons that forcing me to move in AU. I want that my future children lived better...and...I want to start a new life far away from home... Smile

Well, I think it IS expensive. Taxation is high & also indirect taxes (GST) on "luxury items" apply. It is very expensive for folk on low incomes. I've had periods of unemployment & I know! Sad

What are your qualifications/skills? There are shortages in some fields & gluts in others.

A good starting point is discovering whether your area of expertise is "in demand" or not.

Gosh, does anyone else with expertise in this field have an answer for Switch-Twitch? I don't think an educated guess from me is too brilliant an idea! Confused

Goodness - so many questions about moving to Oz!

Switch-twitch - welcome to A2K.

It's quite difficult to migrate to Australia - you need to qualify on a points system, that will be outlined in the Dept Immigration website that msOlga mentioned. New graduates may not have enough experience to add up the points but do be guided by the official site.

Work in the IT industry has been really hard to come by - and there have been a lot of people unemployed in that area. Things are improving slightly, but unemploymment is still common, and you would need to have some working experience to get a job. I can't comment specifically on your skills / qualifications - as that's not in my field. I'm not sure if anyone here knows anything about it, but I'll contact another member to see if he can help.

It is expensive to live here - Sydney is the most expensive, and then Melbourne followed by assorted others. This is a huge continent/country, (roughly the same size as mainland USA), but with a population of only 20 million, and most of us clong to the eastern coast. We do have a nice life, though.

Good luck.

An Oz online employment site. This may give you some idea of the jobs that are in demand at the moment.

If you're under 28 or so, you may qualify for a working holiday visa - so you can come here, travel around, and have a look at the work situation. I'm not sure what the arrangements are with Estonia - probably the Australian embassy in your country could help
