can a garage door opener that is installed wrong cause the sheetrock ceiling in the garage to fall and/or droop? My home does not have water damage.

@uhcl08,

I had the ceiling drywall get rubbed by the garage door opener track, but not pull any down.

The thickness has to be right, also. Too thin and it would droop. .

You may have moisture in that area or there is weight between the rafters. Are you storing things up there?

@uhcl08,
Certainly it could. A GDO is heavy and if it wasn't attached properly to framing members it could cause drywall to drop.

@uhcl08,
Garage doors are quite heavy and if it is not installed properly then it will damage the ceiling. As a matter of fact it would also depend upon the ceiling type though! If it is delicate, it will start drooping sooner.
