De niro in cape fear

I have the utmost respect for De Niro but his portrayal of the psycho in this film was nothing short of pathetic, watch the original and see the difference in acting quality.

Robert Mitchum was actually superior as the villain in the original -- one of the few De Niro performances that went over-the-top. BTW, there is a featured topic on villains in film and it seems you're interested in the same response. Only Jack Palance, (still alive) in Shane, can come even close to Mitchum's baddie in Cape Fear!

Both actors in these two movies just exude pure.... "creepiness"!
