My spybot will not start. I have tried re-installing, removing and installing. I looked for the configuration.ini file, but it was completely missing. I downloaded the tool HERE and was able to create the .ini file, but still spybot will not start. I have run disc checks, ad-aware, cwsshredder, bazooka, spyware doctor, avg free and online checks at pcpitstop. None of them have found anything. I have a preventative programs installed such as winpatrol, spywareblaster and sygate firewall. I am usually pretty good at this sort of stuff, but am at a complete loss. Please help, if you can.

Home built computer running winxp sp2, 1.2 gig amd duron 512 ram. Nothing major changed before failure

Thanx in advance

You might wanna try to uninstall once more, using Spybot's own uninstall utility, then, with "View all files and folders" enabled, search-for-and-delete-if-found (using the asterisk wildcard character at the end of the search text) any files or folders named or containing "spybot*" and "pepimk*" .

Then, run HiJackThis, see if there are any entries related to Spybot, have HJT "fix" them, folowed up by clearin' all your caches and temp files, emptyin' your recycle bin, rebootin', then downloadin' a fresh copy of Spybot.

Before attemptin' to re-install it, disconnect from the 'net, disable all security and privacy software. Once it has been installed, before doin' anything else, reconnect to the 'net and see if you can get Spybot to update.

Whatever the results, remember to re-enable your security and privacy stuff before movin' on.

Thanks, timberlandko. It appears that the problem lies wit the Adwatch part of Ad-aware, blocking Spybot. After downloading the lates defs. (SE1R32 10.03.2005) spybot seems to be working normally again.
