When I log on -- I am notified that there are "x" number of new postings since my last visit.

When I ask to see them, I usually get a number of postings substantially smaller than the "x" -- with the qualifier "This many meet your criteria."

I ain't set up no criteria.

What is happening here?

guessing that number of posts not equal to number of topics posted in.

And that guess is correct. If there are 200 new posts, but these were made in only 50 distinct topics, you'll see 50 items meeting your search criteria (your search criteria are "posts since your last visit"). Let me know if this is at all unclear.

Thanks Dyslexia and Jespah.
