Please print out these instructions, as you will have to disconnect from the internet to carry out some of the required operations.

Be certain that your Windows is working properly apart from your bowser problems, then disable System Restore. Be certain Windows is operating properly first, as doing this will remove all previous restore points.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>System Restore tab - Place a checkmark in the "Turn off System Restore" box. If prompted, click "Yes" to confirm, click "Apply", then click "OK". Reboot when prompted. This will remove your previous restore points; ONLY when this procedure is done and your machine is operating satisfactorily, reverse the procedure to re-enable system restore, then set a fresh restore point.

Start>Run> type (without the quotes) "msconfig", click the "Launch System Restore" bar; when the System Restore utility opens, select the "Create a restore point" button, then click "Next". Give your new restore point a description that will be meaningful to you - something like "After Yuckware Removal" would be logical. Click "Create". When the new restore point is confirmed, click "OK" in the System Configuration Utility control panel and restart when prompted. There may be several steps to this, so don't re-enable System Restore untill we're sure we're done.


Right-click "My Computer", select "Open", then open the folder for your root drive (the drive on which Windows resides, usually "Local Disk ( C: )". From that folder's toolbar, select "Tools", then "Folder Options". Enable Explorer to view all files and folders:

Click the "View" tab - place a check mark in the following boxes:

"Display the contents of system folders"
"Display full path in address bar"

Under "Hidden Files and folders" select the "Show hidden files and folders" button

Uncheck the following boxes:

"Hide extensions for known file types"
"Hide protected operating system files" (Recommended)"
Click "Yes" to confirm, Click "Apply", then click "OK"

Click "Apply", then click "OK". Do not close the folder.

Again from that folder's toolbar, select "File", then "New", then "Folder", name the folder "HJT", and drag the folder containing your copy of HijackThis from C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\hijackthis.exe into the new folder. Be sure you include any log and backup files that were in the original folder.

Fully update your Windows and Internet Explorer

Run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool[/i][/u]

Download and install Microsoft AntiSpyware. When it has installed, select "File" from the upper lefthand corner of its splash page, and select "Check for updates". When it has completed its update process, have it run a full system scan, allowing it to fix whatever, if anything, it finds. Reboot if prompted to do so.

Download and run the most recent version of STINGER, selecting "Fix".

Download but do not yet run Cleanup.

Download, but do not run LSP Fix[/i][/u]. It may not be necessary to use this at all, but the removal of some yuckware items may prevent you from connecting to the internet. If that happens, running this utility should resolve the problem.

Download and run CW Shredder, allowing it to fix whatever, if anything, it finds.

Go to Housecall. Once there, disable your own antivirus, read the directions and follow the instructions to run the free online scan, having it fix whatever, if anything, it finds. If it wants you to reboot when it has completed, do so.

Re-enable your own virus scan, have it check for updates, and run a full system scan.

Disconnect from the internet, and run HiJackThis, having it fix the following if they show up:

I would recommend also having HJT fix these 2 entries; they are unnecessary to the operation of their parent applications and essentially are just resource hogs:

Run full system scans with both Spybot and Ad Aware, allowing both to fix whatever, if anything, they find.

Now run Cleanup, then reboot as it suggests when it has completed, and run Hijackthis again WITH NO OTHER WINDOWS OR BROWSERS OPEN, but don't have it fix anything, just post the newest log here after reconnecting to the internet.
