hijack this - how do i know what to get rid of?

hey i don't really know what im doing but i found this hotkeys.exe thing in my computer and want to get rid of it. i got hijack this but it's coming up with loads of things. I don't know what i should delete and what needs to be there. here is the log

You shouldn't "get rid of" anything until HijackThis is in its own folder on your root drive. Right now, you've got it in a temporary folder under your username profile. See the instructions HERE ; it would be a good idea to follow all the steps there bfore posting a log. Also, its a good idea to briefly describe the symptoms your machine has - excessive pop-ups, search or home-page re-direction, inability to access particular websites, slowness, instability, start-up-shutdown problems, error-messages, what have you.

That said, hotkeyes.exe is in all likelyhood a legitimate, and very common app; it enables the user to construct keynoard macros, and probably should be left alone. Often it is included with the software bundle supplied by your machine's manufacturor.

I notice, however, you do have GATOR/GAIN/CLARIA present; that is sonething I'd get rid of, just on general principle. Other than that, and perhaps a few benign-but-unnecessary startup items, that's a pretty clean log.

Either SpyBot S&D or AdAware SE should take care of GATOR/GAIN/CLARIA alone, used back-to-back, the combo certainly will, as the parent is among the most common of yuckware, and is included in both of their detection-and-removal files.

If for some reason its still there after runnin' both, there is a multi-step manual removal method, but odds are you won't need it if you take the steps outlined in the topic I linked for you. Give it a shot.

When you've done that, go ahead and post a fresh HJT log here (with HJT run from where it belongs :wink: ), and we'll be glad to look it over and see if there's anytjing else of interest.
