Protest against discrimination returned to the forefront and rain made a timely departure as Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras enjoyed its smoothest sailing - and noisiest - parade in years.
Police made no arrests despite an estimated 450,000 spectators and organisers declared the 28th annual parade a dazzling success.
It is Mardi Gras in Sydney again!!

My favourite bit...
Quote:Play School's controversial My Two Mums segment, which came under fire from most sides of politics for depicting a girl with lesbian parents, also earned its spot on Oxford Street, Sydney.
Eight-year-old Brenna Harding and her real-life two mums, Vicki Harding and partner Jackie, were named chiefs of the parade and rode at its head in a convertible car.
"It's a bit special", Brenna, perhaps the parade's youngest participant, told AAP earlier.
"You get twice as much stuff, and if one's angry the other one will stick up for you".
So what - no news here, move on please!
We are long since over worrying about sexual preferences - its open and healthy and permissive - feel jealous!
