Why aren't there any decent HP Lovecraft adapted films? (possible redux question)

I read the book Lovecraft Country but I haven't seen the show yet.

Most of the Lovecraft references happen pretty early in the story, then the rest of the book is more Twilight Zone style storytelling. As far as I remember, none of the gods make an appearance.

I saw it last night, the focus switched to the Korean War and the main protagonist is not as good as he first appeared.
