IRQ & Stop Errors

Hi all,

I have been getting stop errors recently (again) and in my pursuit of some solution have noticed that some advised "freeing up IRQ's for windows to use". Now, I'm not entirely sure what an IRQ is, but I noticed that in start up I had the following configuration and wondered whether it could be a source of errors:

Code:IRQ

SM Bus IRQ 11
USB1 IRQ 5
USB1 IRQ 11
USB2 IRQ 5
Network Cntrlr IRQ 11
Multimedia IRQ 11
IDE IRQ 14/15
Display Cntrlr IRQ 5
ACPI Cntrlr IRQ 9

Seems that a lot of things are using the same IRQ ... could this be a source of difficulties? Why would there be two USB1's using different ports? If so, could you please advise on how best to change the settings?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the links Timberlandko, I'm afraid the advice they give is too technical for me to sort out.

I did come across something that seems to help in case it might prove to be of help to anyone:
if a program is overtaxing your system resources you might have a corrupted "page file" ... in XP you right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", click "Advanced", click "Settings" in "Performance", click "Advanced", in "Virtual Memory" click "Change". If you have a custom setting write the numbers down, then tick "No Page File", and click "Set". Click ok-ok-ok and you will be asked to reboot. Repeat the process except change back to your settings and reboot again. Evidently this is a temporary fix.
