@Setanta,
God sleeps in the rock, dreams in the plant, stirs in the animal, and awakens in man.
Ibn Arabi

It's only poetry, but all spirituality is poetry.

@coluber2001,
You think your way and I will think mine. An imaginary friend is bad enough--I'll have no truck with a somnolent mineral deity.

@Setanta,
I'll have no truck with spiritual materialism either, and that's what you're describing.

What do trucks have to do with this?

@auroreII,
To Aurorel.

You wrote: “My christian religion differs from that of islam yet the best description I ever heard for the existence of God came from a muslim. He said that people could say there was no God, but he didn't believe them. He didn't believe because he said he could feel God inside- inside his heart.
Christians say that there is a place inside of us that only God can fill.”

Many people claim same thing. I have been in many churches and met many Christians and pastors and almost all of them have such claims as: “I have GOD in the heart,” or “God put in my heart…,” and other similar statements. But looking at these people closely I found that they lie, because their process of thought and they deeds reveal completely opposite of that they are saying.

Also some people believe, “from the heart” in Santa, in Korma, and in all sorts of superstitious things, and of course they are all claming that these things are true.

But I know for sure, that if GOD enters a man, it will be immediately, not only noticed by a man himself, but also and other people who will see him, and as such examples in the Bible are many.

@BillW,
Yes, societies and individuals evolve spiritually, and sometimes the religions become so enmeshed in symbols that it's difficult to interpret them. It's kind of like dreams.

@auroreII,
I believe everyone is spiritual. We are all born with a spiritual part of ourselves, just as we all have skin, eyes, and a heart. But something went wrong in the past. We became corrupted in nature, so we relate less to our spiritual nature because it is not physical. We are backwards. The eternal part of ourselves is the part we understand the least.

@KingReef,
And yet no one can show corruption in a baby (perhaps genetics aside - which tends to be physical / cognitive). So much is learned, and so much is influenced by the environment.

And people can learn it. It doesn't need religion, though religion is one form it can be reached.

Note: the spirituality of people is also recognised in every day language use:
- that's the spirit
- it's not in the spirit of ....
- she's spirited
- his spirits are low
- etc

Ie. it is not just about a deep sense of peace with the world. That is just one apsect of spirituality.

You also have:
- he lifts people up
- she walks into the room and people come alive
- there's just an aura about him
- they are a very magnetic personality

These people may not understand spirituality as religious people, or eastern mystics or the like, but in reality, they can be every bit as spiritual.

@vikorr,
I don't think so. What I think you are saying is that you don't recognize corruption in babies. They are though, they just don't have the imagination and ability to typically do harm. They aren't looking to do harm. But the corruption is evident to me, especially in things they do stubbornly, or throw their bowl of oats on the floor. Cry defiantly. The list probably can;t be too ling because they are so young. But that corruption drives their actions to where it becomes more apparent later. Like lying, stealing, doing what they were told not to do.

@KingReef,
Alright, if you see that as corruption, suuuuure.

Do they mean any evil whatsoever by it? Are they capable of spirituality?

So a baby throwing a bowl in the air, is later going to steal.... if not properly guided? And doing what they were told not to do is corrupt?

We obviously have very different understandings of the nature of babies, what corruption is, and how it affects people.

My view is that people are born uncorrupted, and they become corrupted during their growth years / while growing. As adults they take responsibility for their state (or not) and grow more spiritual, or less. There are nebulous areas, involving genetics.

Evil is not an absence of spirituality, as I understand it. We are evil because our spirit has been corrupted. For those of us in Christ, God brings his regenerative Spirit to separate us from the world, and influence us toward the kinds of things God is concerned with for us personally, from person to person individually. A Christian should be taught never to reach for perfect behavior, to have a sinless hour. That isn't possible in this life. We are all spiritual beings, we are all evil (corrupted) beings. Evil is not the absence of having a spirit part of ourselves.
