Deer love hostas, but daffodils are poison. I've had deer bite the tops off daffodils shoots and spit them out, unchewed on the ground.

My daffodils already have flower heads, but none have bloomed yet. I'm crossing my fingers we don't get another good snow. We never can tell this time of year.

We had cardinals here about a month ago.

I just drove home through a heavy snowstorm.

It appears winter has just arrived in Toronto.

I flipped the calendar over to March and saw "First Day of Spring" listed on the 20th. Nothing green outside yet, but it won't be long.

The apple blossoms are just starting to bud here. It's a little early but we've had a very mild winter.

Does the fact that I couldn't get to sleep last night because my mind was racing with gardening ideas count, or is that too internal?

First day of spring in 19 days!!! Woo-hoo!!

I have this picture on my monitor (took it last year, early spring) and it's escalating my spring fever:

I printed three pictures from this thread last year, two from satts_fs and one from Francis. I put them away in July and found them back out a couple weeks ago. They are taped to the side of my computer screen.

http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1233702#1233702 is still available but the others no longer link.

Looking at C_Janes pics from last year warm my heart also.

Today I turned my headlights off after about 1/3 of the way through my commute to work. This might not seem remarkable but that was at about 6:20 this AM -- hence the days are definitely getting longer.

Spring? There's really spring somewhere? Shocked

The mountain region close to us (about 30 miles away) still has more than 110 ski lifts runnings (the highest number since ages), the 90 days of skiing/season (than the real profit starts) were reached in early February (first time since ages as well) ... and even here at my place - flatest flatland the park in the town todays looks like this(from tomorrow's local paper 'Der Patriot')

I'm going for a short trip to Paris tonight/tomorrow early morning - might be, I can see the spring there

eastern lake ontario :
no spring here either . after a mild january it's turned cold with overnight lows of around
minus 20 C !
the eastern end of lake ontario is frozen over and the ferry to wolfe island has had to activate the 'bubble' system to keep a channel open .
no warming trend expected for another ten days . hbg

Walter, the temperature has been close to 70 degrees here during the day, and tonight it has lowered to 60. But it almost always freezes once more, close to mid-April.

It's gonna be 80 here tomorrow. Believe me, I would love to get a winter at least every other year.

Signs of spring: my mold allergies are acting up.

I just cleaned up in the back yard here. Actually, Dag and I did it together. Old leaves from last year, semi-frozen. You'd think that mold, semi-frozen, wouldn't have the same knock-out potential as it does when it's warm.

I have leaf mold allergies too, littlek. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

3 to 5 inches of snow tonight followed by 50s on Monday and Tuesday. The rollercoaster has begun.

eastern lake ontario :
it was a very nice 'pre-spring' day here .
daytime temp just above freezing with plenty of sunshine . still some snow on the grond - much to the delight of bailey and cleo - ebeth's dogs - who enjoyed running into the snow and sticking their heads under the snowbanks .
the eastern end of lake ontario is frozen over , plenty of skaters out on the lake - some must have been a mile offshore . the lake looks like a huge plate-glass mirror - sun shining on the ice almost blinding .
birds chirping .
gradual warmup this week . hbg
